25.01.2022 Lots of work happening at the VMR Base today. A new head structure is being fitted to our communications tower. This houses telecommunications equipment for the major phone companies, as well as marine radio aerials for our operation. This structure is 4.2 metres square and weighs 4.8 tonne. To enhance VMR's marine radio coverage we are installing all new equipment so that we can get the maximum strength out of our communications, meaning an improved service for the hundreds of mariners who communicate with VMR Southport annually.

21.01.2022 With the storm season on the Gold Coast approaching, those who own boats anchored on the water, please make sure you have sufficient anchor chain out to compensate for the strong winds predicted. Dragging anchors are a high occurrence during these storm events. For those of you who have boats moored to pontoons either at home or in marinas, please keep an eye on your bilge pumps and make sure they are working to avoid waking up in the morning to see your pride and joy on the bottom. Stay safe and keep monitoring your vessel wherever it is. For assistance please call 55911300

15.01.2022 Product recall

15.01.2022 As predicted, the weather has been atrocious on the Broadwater so far this weekend. Since Friday night the crews have attended over 20 requests for assistance, mostly involving drifting vessels. Sadly a couple of vessels have been severely damaged, and a houseboat has sunk, however in the majority of activations things could have been a lot worse if it weren't for the quick response and professional actions provided by the VMR crews. We still need to be aware though of reports that the worst is still yet to come. Please protect yourself and stay off the water unless you absolutely need to be out there. Remember VMR Southport are available 24/7, and membership is only $77 per year. www.vmrsouthport.com.au

14.01.2022 A few days of warm and windy weather and the VMR Southport workload is already increasing. Yesterday we undertook four requests for assistance, including a jetski and rider who were almost washed onto rocks in the Seaway. A rapid response from our crews prevented this from happening. This morning we were called to assist Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) with a patient who had a nasty fall on a houseboat in the Broadwater. The man was complaining of severe rib pain, and was transported to hospital. VMR membership is only $77 per year. Don't get caught without it. www.vmrsouthport.com.au

13.01.2022 The Ball-Diamond-Ball day shapes let other vessels know the our rescue vessel is restricted in its ability to manoeuvre. We display these shapes when we are towing another vessel. Please slow down and give us a little extra space if you see us displaying the shapes. Red crew is now on shift until 18:00 Saturday evening. Give us a call on 07 5591 1300 if you require assistance. www.vmrsouthport.com.au

13.01.2022 Thankyou to Gold Coast City Marina & Shipyard, we appreciate your hard work.

12.01.2022 Great to join the Southern Zone Squadrons of Marine Rescue Queensland for their quarterly meeting on Sunday. The meeting included Volunteer Marine Rescue Currum...bin, Volunteer Marine Rescue Southport and Volunteer Marine Rescue Jacobs Well. In particular, I was keen to hear about their funding needs and the outstanding training they are providing across the State. VMR provide a critical emergency service to our community on the waterways, and funding them into the future needs to be a priority.

12.01.2022 Its already an extremely busy day on the water today. The first vessels started departing the Seaway for offshore at 0230 this morning. Our Radio Operator was kept extremely busy until 0500 when the Seaway Tower opened. 3 VMR vessels are now assisting broken down vessels, and these make up 6 jobs for the crew so far. It's a beautiful day, enjoy the sunshine, and take care on the water. There are vessels of all shapes and sizes everywhere you look. Remember, VMR membership is only $77 www.vmrsouthport.com.au

12.01.2022 This afternoon Yellow Crew was involved in a rescue of a 5.6m centre console which had suffered engine failure and had been swept onto rocks in the Seaway. All 4 persons onboard were uninjured and had managed to get onto South Stradbroke Island. Marine Rescue 2 raced to the stricken vessel which was being swamped by large swell, and in very tricky conditions with great crew work, managed to get a rope to the vessel and towed it to safety. Coastguard 1 kindly offered to pick ...up the fishermen and returned them to the Spit Boat Ramp so they could inspect the damage to their vessel. We also thank MSQ who provided sound intel for MR2 about seaway conditions. These 4 lucky fishermen, who were on their very first trip, are very thankful for our assistance and became members immediately. Don’t be caught out, secure your membership now $77py for 24/7 assistance. See more

11.01.2022 The weather is slowly starting to improve, and it looks like only a few showers and some mild winds for the weekend. Please be aware though that there is a lot of freshwater runoff into the Broadwater, and with that brings some very dirty water and quite a lot of rubbish washed in from the riverbanks. VMR Southport are expecting the vessel traffic to increase from this weekend on, so we ask you to take extra care and always be aware of other vessels on the water. Our crews operate 24 / 7, so if you need marine assistance please give us a call. Have a great weekend. VMR membership makes for a great Christmas gift at only $77 per year. www.vmrsouthport.com.au

11.01.2022 Yellow crew were flagged down today by a jetskier with engine trouble. More importantly, they needed to get home quickly so his little girl could get to her 11th birthday party! A fantastic collaborative effort by Queensland Fire & Rescue officers, Queensland Water Police and VMR members. #QFES #QPS #QAS

08.01.2022 It was yet another busy Sunday for Yellow Crew. VMR Southport were tasked to jointly lead the jetski procession for the World Record attempt at the largest number of Santa's on jetskis. This was a great event, and given the large number of other vessels on the water, went very smoothly. VMR Southport is also very excited about their record attempt at signing up as many new members in the lead up to, and beyond the Christmas / New Year period. If you would like Santa to deliver something great, membership is only $77p.a for 24 / 7 marine assistance. Don't get caught without it. Ph. 5591 1300 www.vmrsouthport.com.au

07.01.2022 A couple of days of hot and humid weather has seen an increase in the number of boats on the water, and the VMR Southport crews have been relatively busy. So far this week we have attended to 7 activations, with the pump out of a sinking vessel, which was successful, the ungrounding of a stranded vessel from a sandbank, and 5 tows of broken down vessels. VMR membership is only $77 per year. Don't get caught without it. www.vmrsouthport.com.au

07.01.2022 Over the next few weeks three of the four VMR Southport vessels will be detailed and antifouled at the Gold Coast City Marina & Shipyard. Once again, generosity from local businesses has enabled this to happen with The Gold Coast City Marina, Bradford Marine Boat Maintenance and Repairs Gold Coast, Harbourforce Marine, and International Yacht Paint Asia Pacific, combining to offer this complimentary arrangement to VMR Southport. We are extremely grateful for this and ask our members and supporters to think of these businesses next time their vessel needs out of water attention. Don't forget VMR membership is only $77 per year. vmrsouthport.com.au

06.01.2022 It's been a busy week for the VMR Southport crews, indicating that the hectic summer period is rapidly approaching. Sunday was a busy day with 10 activations. 7 of these were routine tows, and the other 3 involved persons who were injured on our waterways, requiring QAS, Queensland Ambulance Service Emergency Paramedic and First Responder attention. Today has also seen 4 activations already, possibly a sign of what's to come over the weekend. Decent weather is forecast. Don't get caught out, purchase yourself, or someone you know a VMR membership for only $77. vmrsouthport.com.au

06.01.2022 Given their life saving benefit, defibrillators are carried as standard equipment on the VMR Southport Rescue vessels. On Saturday, Red crew were undertaking patrols when they were flagged down for assistance near Wavebreak Island. A medical episode was in progress and with our highly trained crew and QAS First Responders they were able to assist the patient while managing the scene to organise backup assistance from Emergency Paramedics. All Volunteer Marine Rescue crews are First Aid trained and by us having these life saving devices on board our vessels, we are able to increase a patient's chance of survival Please continue to support VMR Southport. 04.01.2022 VMR Southport President Glenn Norris today had the pleasure of meeting Ashmore Mens Shed representatives David Grant, Don McGrath and Noel Huggett. The Ashmore Mens Shed were given a project to build new dayshapes for the VMR Rescue vessels. These dayshapes make other Skippers aware that VMR vessels are restricted in their ability to manouvre, so please keep clear, especially when we are towing another vessel. Thank you very much to the Ashmore Mens Shed for the great work they have done for VMR, as well as that they do in the general community Don't forget VMR membership is only $77 vmrsouthport.com.au
