Woody Allen said that "Tragedy + Time = Comedy", and I would add distance to the equation: I would never make a joke about something that I know my conversational partner has suffered. But, as cinema is not aimed at anyone in particular, but towards a general audience, there should be no limits to the stories it tells. Humour, in all its faces, is a way of free speech. When I read the comic book that my shortfilm is based on, I found it really transgressor: it was enough reason for me to make the adaptation. I love noir films, and I love dark comedy: why shouldn't I shoot a film that is both of them in their fully expression?" Ever since I was a little child back in my home country of the Netherlands, I used to sit in front of my TV and watch all these movies take place in this beautiful mythical place called Australia. Right there and then I made a vow to myself: I will one day visit this beautiful country! Man...y years later I became a film director and while searching for what my new movie should be about I found out that my girlfriend was cheating on me... and so "Accident", a dedication to this amazing sack of shit, was born. With the selection of "Accident" by the Over The Fence Comedy Film Festival my dream could have finally come true, wouldn't it be that my entire life sometimes feels like one big dark-comedy movie: due to work I won’t be able to make it. The whole team worked really hard on the project and to find out it will be shown at a festival that goes to so many locations is really exciting.
