11.01.2022 In case we needed it, more proof that dogs are incredible creatures

11.01.2022 Bored and Stuck at home? Try teaching your dog some new tricks! "Touch" is a particularly useful trick that can then be used to train for other tricks such as learning to use weave poles (see more on this at Vogue Vets & Wellness Centre) Before you start, take an old straight piece of sprinkler plastic, pierce a hole in a ping pong ball, and fit the two together to create a "touch stick". You will also need a clicker or verbal "click"... Step 1: Hold the touch stick with the ball end away from you and wait Step 2: By nature, dogs are curious and tend to explore new objects with their nose/mouth. When they do this, click your clicker (or fingers), say "touch" and reward them with a high value reward. Keep doing this repeatedly until the word "touch" is associated with the reward. If your dog isn't curious about the stick, gently tap the ball to their nose and click at the same time. Step 3: Next time they touch the stick with their nose/mouth to the ball, click and treat, giving the command, "touch" at the same time. Step 4: When your pet can touch the ball end of the stick on command, give them a jackpot, and make sure to praise them for their good work.
