25.01.2022 Being involved in animal protection in any capacity can make you sad, it can make you angry, it can make you question the ethics of those you hold closest in your life. It leads to mental fatigue and the Voiceless Team understand that! Its important to check in with your loved ones and equally important to check in with yourself. Not just today but every day! #ruok #ruokday #animalprotection
25.01.2022 There are innumerable welfare issues associated with keeping dolphins and whales in captivity so it is so heartening to see these two gorgeous belugas released into sanctuary. Our most popular Animal Protection Education (APE) kit teaches students about the social and intelligent nature of dolphins, and the welfare issues associated with keeping them in captivity in aquariums and marine parks. Download it for free here: https://voiceless.org.au/schools/dolphins-in-captivity/

25.01.2022 Animal cruelty, environmental degradation, exploitative labor and a broken food system run by big businesses. This is the reality of factory farming. Spread the word.
25.01.2022 Two Victorians have been charged with a second round of animal cruelty offences relating to animal breeding and illegally selling kittens from the boot of their car. Thank you to Oscar's Law for this critical investigation.

24.01.2022 Your questions answered and those pesky myths busted! Are plant-based meat alternatives unhealthy? But #CrueltyFree diets kill millions of insects! What will happen to the farmers if the world goes #CrueltyFree?
24.01.2022 "As more and more Australians become aware of the welfare issues associated with factory farming, its time to shine a light on the suffering of these smart and sensitive beings." Click through to learn more so you can better advocate for the protection of animals.
24.01.2022 Thank you so much to our compassionate community of friends, supporters and donors for cheering us on through 2020. From all of us here at Voiceless, have a safe and restful holiday season and we'll see you in the new year to continue the fight!
24.01.2022 Is your money inadvertently funding industries that inflict cruelty on animals and cause environmental degradation? Voiceless envisions a world in which animals are treated with respect and compassion and we extend the concept of living cruelty free past the choices we make at mealtime.
23.01.2022 Happy the Elephant has spent most of her life on a one acre plot of land in the Bronx Zoo. Picture a football field. Its smaller than that. And since 2006, shes been alone in that enclosure.... In the U.S., the @nonhuman.rights.project (NhRP) has been fighting to grant Happy legal personhood and therefore, sanctuary. This World Elephant Day, were bringing you an update on her case straight from the offices of NhRP founder, Prof. Steven Wise.

20.01.2022 Since 2011, Lefty's Place Farm Sanctuary has rescued thousands of commercial egg laying hens and broiler chickens. Run by Tamara Kenneally Photography, Lefty’s has provided lifelong homes to many in need, and Tamara is now in the process of building infrastructure to turn her sanctuary into a place where no chicken in need is turned away. The Voiceless Animal Protection Heroes gift will help Tamara build more chicken coops for future feathered residents!... : http://ow.ly/1hoh50CmokX
20.01.2022 "One of the most baffling decisions to come out of Melbournes move into stage 4 lockdown, was the discovery that horse and greyhound racing would continue in the state, and was therefore not classified as non-essential..."
19.01.2022 Voiceless Ambassador, Gemma Davis of The Compassionate Road in conversation with Philip Lumbery, CEO of Compassion in World Farming. If youre interested in the intersection of environmentalism and animal agriculture, this is for you!

17.01.2022 CW: Animal Cruelty Year in and year out, footage like this does the rounds of Australian media and yet, the live export trade continues. We are developing educational resources for high school students to critically discuss live animal export in Australia and across the globe. The more educated voices that join and amplify the conversation, the closer we may get to our vision of a kind and compassionate world for animals. ... And remember, todays youth and tomorrows changemakers.

If you're thinking of adopting a pet over the holiday period, please consider re-homing one of the many dogs and cats waiting for their furever homes at the pound or at dedicated pet rescues. Please tag your favourites below and help the Voiceless community adopt responsibly! #AdoptDontShop
15.01.2022 "For residents in the Kinley housing estate this family mob of about 30 eastern grey kangaroos has been a welcome presence for many years. But they are likely to soon be culled as their habitat is developed for housing." If we accept the sentience of kangaroos - that is, their ability to feel pain, build relationships and feel emotion - then Australias treatment of these native animals must be reconsidered. Learn more about the slaughter of kangaroos in Australia: http://ow.ly/GbtT50AY6W9
15.01.2022 The NSW Parliament has passed laws which aim to provide greater protections for companion animals and their humans in situations of domestic violence. The Crimes (Domestic and Personal Violence) Act 2007 will now: - recognise the link between animals and domestic violence in the objects of the Act;... - require that animals be listed on Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders, rather than being lumped in as 'property' of the victim; and - include animals in the definition of 'intimidation'. Thank you to Emma Hurst MP of the Animal Justice Party for working hard to make this a reality! Read the Communities & Justice statement here: http://ow.ly/gAw850ClaWK #AnimalLaw #AnimalProtection
14.01.2022 "Humanitys relationship with animals is dysfunctional: humans love animals yet simultaneously perpetrate extreme violence against them."
11.01.2022 "While it sounds more humane compared to what occurs on factory farms, where the overwhelming majority of meat comes from, organic labels do not get rid of other industry standard practices. These include clipping hens beaks and pigs teeth, forcible insemination, and being shipped in crowded transport trucks without access to food or water, even in extreme heat. Farms still separate dairy cows from their babies shortly after birth. And even when organic, veal calves can be contained in small, dark stalls for up to six months."
11.01.2022 Look at these big pigs running around at Furever Farm! Furever Farm were a recipient of the Voiceless Animal Protection Heroes last year and weve so enjoyed getting to know Darren and his team via their regular video updates. Head to their Facebook page for more cute content like this!
09.01.2022 You love to hear it!
09.01.2022 Good news today - weve just launched the 2020 Voiceless Animal Protection Heroes! Were working towards a kinder and more compassionate world for animals by supporting on-the-ground animal carers.
07.01.2022 Despite widely held beliefs that fish and other aquatic animals do not feel pain, are unintelligent or not sentient, this is simply not the case. Aquatic animal...s have historically received less consideration and attention than other animals. However, the tide is slowly turning. In this blog, Professor Kathy Hessler and Fellow, Amy P. Wilson, of our Aquatic Animal Law Initiative, share their insights as to why aquatic animals are wrongly disregarded. Lewis & Clark Law School #aquaticanimals #animallaw
07.01.2022 Many people picture dairy cows living within traditional farming systems, and believe they are naturally producing enough milk to both feed their young and provide for human consumption. In reality, dairy cows are subjected to a continuous cycle of calving, milking and impregnation, which can take a serious toll on their welfare. Were celebrating this story of transition and success on #WorldPlantMilkDay ! If youd like to learn more about the welfare issues facing dairy cows and their calves, head to our website: https://voiceless.org.au/hot-topics/dairy-cows/

07.01.2022 Applications for the 2020 Voiceless Animal Protection Heroes open on Tuesday August 18! Whether theyre restoring the well-being of sheep, pigs or chickens who have fallen victim to industrialised farming, or nursing an orphaned joey who would otherwise be unable to survive alone; animal carers often operate with zero financial support. This means using their own personal finances and even sacrificing their own homes for the sake and love of the animals. To recognise and ...reward this dedication, we created the Voiceless Animal Protection Heroes, which gifts 8 sanctuaries or carers with $1,000 each. If you, or someone you know, runs a farmed animal sanctuary or cares for injured or orphaned wildlife in Australia, tag them below and let them know! 06.01.2022 Are you looking for some exciting and inspiring New Year reads? We have compiled a list of our favourite recommendations, including non-fiction, YA fiction and picks for the kids!
06.01.2022 A recent study has found that horses and humans have a similar sensitivity to pain! If this research leads to a ban on whips - and we hope it does - then it may be time to revisit the wealth of research that exists on pain in pigs, cows, chickens and other farmed animals who are currently exempt from the existing animal welfare legislation.

Over the past 22 months, they have rescued, rehabilitated and re-homed over 350 animals from various situations with 60+ residing at the sanctuary as permanent residents who for one reason or another are not able to be adopted out. We hope to provide exposure for this relatively new safe space for the animals! : http://ow.ly/1hoh50CmokX
05.01.2022 Did you know that Australia conducts the largest commercial slaughter of land-based wildlife in the world? Learn more about the slaughter of Kangaroos here: http://ow.ly/FyNw50CMv4b
05.01.2022 Scottish poet Gordon Meades newly released collection of poetry entitled Zoospeak explores the lives of animals in confinement around the world. Accompanying his poems are powerful photos by animal rights activist and renowned photo-journalist, Jo-Anne McArthur. "Zoospeak is an accumulative building block of words to create an insightful outlook on animals in captivity. It displays a stripping of dignity, exposing powerfully how animals in captivity are robbed of their innate behavior." Click the link below to read the full review of Meades Zoospeak.
04.01.2022 Voiceless envisions a world where animals are treated with respect and compassion. We will be working towards that vision for as long as animals are treated as commodities.

Philosopher and Princeton University professor, Peter Singer, discusses his views on modern societys relationship with fishes on the Voiceless Blog. Read below!
01.01.2022 A ship carrying almost 6,000 cows and 43 humans has sunk off the coast of Japan while making its way from New Zealand to China.
