24.01.2022 Students at Gingin District High School are learning to fight fires as part of a new program that means students will be able to join their local bushfire brigade at the end of the year. Deputy Principal Andrea Vis said not only are students learning about fire and fire safety, they are learning to be valued community members. "It is fundamental that we instil that sense of ownership and sense of belonging for a community to survive," she said.

23.01.2022 Jo Watson, the director of supporter engagement at Save the Children Australia told Pro Bono Australia she hoped the partnership between Save the Children and Volunteering Australia would help spread the message that it was in fact safe to return to volunteering and that they were actually needed more than ever. The average age of our volunteers and our retail networks is about 65 and for many of those people, Save the Children is their community and it’s their family," she said.

20.01.2022 A new project has been launched by suicide prevention group the Dr Edward Koch Foundation where volunteers will help give struggling Cairns residents backyard makeovers to give their mental health a boost. The initiative was the brainchild of volunteer coordinator Marty Ots: "Its about being a collective through the community to help others to achieve projects that help everybodys mood during this time," he said.

18.01.2022 Mission Australia's new Youth Survey Report 2020 has revealed more than four in 10 (43.3%) respondents reported they had participated in volunteer work in the past year. The top three activities for young people nationally were sports as a participant (70.7%), sports as a spectator (62.1%) and arts/cultural/music activities (43.9%), closely followed by volunteer work (43.3%).
