17.01.2022 While a mobile phone is not a recognised distress method for mariners, the Emergency app may complement traditional methods such as a VHF marine radio or EPIRB and assist with pinpointing your location, providing you’re within a mobile service area. The ‘what3words’ positioning system covers the sea as well as land. Safe boating all.

09.01.2022 In my first 100 days as Minister, I've visited 66 police, emergency services and correctional services stations and facilities. I am awestruck by the more than... 20,000 South Australians, including 15,000 volunteers, who work everyday to keep our communities safe. They risk their lives to keep us safe and do so with professionalism and integrity. We owe them the resources and support that they need to keep us safe, and we'll continue to deliver for them. 09.01.2022 AVCG PORT VINCENT FLOTILLA COMMISSION ‘VINCENT STAR’ INTO SERVICE It was great to see so many in attendance when the Port Vincent Flotilla of the AVCG welcomed their new boat into service at the official Commissioning Ceremony today. The new rescue vessel was built in SA by Nautic Star Marine and was Commissioned by Minister for Emergency Services, Hon Vincent Tarzia MP, and formally named by AVCG Life Member Christine Robinson. The new vessel will significantly enhance the ...operational capability of the Flotilla, as well as contribute towards crew safety and comfort. SA Commodore Bill Taylor and Flotilla Commander Ross Evans welcomed all and thanked the SA Government for the contribution of over $500,000 towards the project which included a new tow vehicle, both delivered under the VMR Vessel and Tow Vehicle Replacement Program, along with funding for modifications to the storage facility. The name of the new boat wasn’t lost on the Minister and while it would have been just as fitting to be named after him, ‘Vincent Star’ was chosen to honour the community that she will serve. Other invited guests in attendance included Mr Fraser Ellis MP - Member for Narungga, Mayor Darren Braund - Yorke Peninsula Council, Mr Dominic Lane - Chief Executive of SAFECOM, Mr Chris Beattie - Chief Officer of the SA SES, Mr Darryl Wright - Manager, Volunteer Marine Rescue and builders Marco and Tanya Bacic. It was great to see so many supporters also in attendance, along with representatives from other VMR Associations and Emergency Services. Congratulations to the Port Vincent Flotilla and may the ‘Vincent Star’ serve you and your community well.

04.01.2022 It was very hot on the tarmac this morning as I joined the Minister for Emergency Services, Vincent Tarzia - Member for Hartley to launch this summer’s shark pa...trol program for South Australia. Fixed wing air patrols by Hartwigair Adelaide will commence from tomorrow, 28 November 2020 and will continue through until 26 April 2021 covering beaches from North Haven to Rapid Head on the Fleurieu Peninsula 7 days a week as well as South Coast beaches from Rosetta Head to the mouth of the River Murray on weekends, public holidays and during school holidays. Surf Life Saving SA will again be providing rotary wing aerial support during scheduled community aquatic events over the summer period. The shark patrol launch on the cusp of summer also provided an opportunity to remind South Australian’s of the importance of remaining vigilant and looking after themselves and others during periods of extreme heat. This summer SA State Emergency Service will be issuing heatwave information and warnings at the weather district level. There are three levels of heatwave advice and warnings: - low intensity - check on people at-risk (pregnant women, small children, elderly, chronically ill) - severe - keep cool, drink water, check on those at-risk - extreme - take extra care, plan ahead, keep cool, stay inside, drink water, check on others. Over the coming days SA will experience very high temperatures with a much of the State experiencing low intensity or severe heatwave conditions. So it’s important to pay attention to the warnings for where you live, work and travel. SASES encourages everyone to be thinking about how they can prepare for hot weather over summer and ensure that their family stays safe. * Stay informed, keep cool and stay hydrated. * Plan ahead to avoid any un-essential activities during the hottest parts of the day * Encourage family, neighbours and others at risk from the heat to prepare their homes for summer for example by getting air conditioners serviced. * Register at-risk people for the Red Cross Telecross REDi service who will check on them during heatwaves 1800 188 071. During heat events * keep homes cool by closing blinds and curtains and make use of fans and air conditioners * implement heat safe practices at work * never leave children or pets in cars unattended, and * check on vulnerable family, friends and neighbours. For more information about what to do to prepare for heatwaves please visit the SES website www.ses.sa.gov.au
