20.01.2022 A smile that says, Amazon called us. We didn’t call Amazon. Jim's Jerky is a local, family owned business that tells the story of small biz across Toowoomba Region: employing 12 people; hard work and passion. Oh, and sold via Coles Woolworths Amazon Australia ... On a recent visit we appreciated understanding the business - including the tough bits like finding a suitable space as a growing business and getting approval for a material change of use. 20.01.2022 Had a run in with a snake yesterday. (It didn’t bite me. We just had a brief meeting.) Got a fright, hurdled a wheelbarrow and gashed my leg on a stone wall in my getaway. 20.01.2022 Have to confess my ignorance. Before this am I didn’t really know what @Crows Nest Men’s Shed and other #MensSheds were all about. They’re the community fixits. (My words, not their’s.) ... They’ve helped install ramps at home for people with cancer, fixed chairs, made studs for boats, hosted community bbqs... And they provide a place for friendship and usefulness. Toowoomba Region recently voted to help Crows Nest with a new site because they’re bursting at the seams at their existing shed. 18.01.2022 There’s a huge shortage of boilermakers/welders in Toowoomba Region. 04.01.2022 Doing some heavy lifting. Was fascinating to see Wagners Composite Fibre Technologies being made this week and to learn that these high-tech pieces are used across and the as - poles... - boardwalks - handrails - kick rails - bridges The material’s resilience is especially important here and in California. And their IP is tightly protected. 145 people work in this division of Wagners. In 19/20 financial year they had 12 apprenticeships. In 20/21 there are 20. So it’s fantastic that people are being skilled up for work. There’s some very cool robotics being commissioned at the moment. 04.01.2022 Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack MP is in #Toowoomba today. 01.01.2022 Not your average switchboard. We’re upgrading one of the switchboards at Cressbrook to make it safer and bring it into 2020+ so this morning I heard from Travis Rennick who is a graduate engineer. The last time the switchboard was updated was about 30 years ago (It kinda looked like a prop from a 70s movie).... It’s this stuff that no one really sees or knows about but is critical.
