19.01.2022 The last post mentioned preparing and specific training & benchmark testing after time off or even after an injury. In addition to the longer run with intervals, for a track runner the following session or similar is a good way to see where you are, by testing your pace at your preferred track distances if you are a track athlete, for example. Benchmark testing needs to be consistent and being true to yourself, your goals. The following below, after warm up is 2 x 800, 2 x 1...500, 5 x 300. All specific to benchmark pace/times that i use throughout the year to use the data to train from, in varying type of interval sessions on/off the track. Todays session was a hard slog and I did not attain the pace/splits/laps that i had set out. Conclusion is that the two months off has slowed me down. Regular benchmark testing along with adapted training is necessary to progress. However i now know where I am at, and know that there is a lot of work to do to get back to my previous P.B'S, which is fine. I have the knowledge, I have the discipline and above all I have the motivation & passion to achieve. You either run or you recover, through a day off, a swim and bike ride or other, but the myth of the recovery run is exactly that #amyth Todays session was a run focusing on technique/pace. Goal was to hold relaxed aligned run form whilst holding a set pace of around 5'20m/km. Not fast, in fact slow. However fast wasn't the goal of the session. That comes later, plenty of time for fast.
