25.01.2022 This Monday council experienced a first ever Due to the COVID19 restrictions. the Minister gazetted changes to allow councils to meet digitally! Most councillors still attended in person but councillor Jack Ritchie zoomed in along with David Levey. Myself and Andrea Broadfoot also zoomed in but were present at the meeting to assist those attending digitally. The meeting was recorded and will be uploaded to the council website. ... Additional safe physical distancing was in place for those present at the meeting. I’d personally like to say Thankyou to all the staff who have undergone significant changes to their working lives with a lot of services forced closed such as the Library and Nautilus Art Center. Also the additional workload on a number of staff this month doubt has been a challenge. There is a lot of work to do moving forward and no doubt a lot of issues to deal with. We are all in this together Stay safe everyone! Stay home!

14.01.2022 I love that the neighbouring councils jump in to assist in time of need! We do live in an exceptionally great place! Well done to the council workers who were out cleaning up the mess from the deluge and destruction the massive super cell caused. Thank you to the CFS, ses & MFS for quick responses to so many calls for help. Well done to businesses for getting cleaned up so they can reopen their doors today!... I am sure this weather event has been unprecedented. Certainly in my 45 years as a Port Lincoln citizen I’ve never seen anything like this! Please still take care on roads & foot paths

13.01.2022 Wishing our local Indian communtiy a Happy Diwali! A bright and colourful and cheerful celebration where we celebrate victory over evil or light over dark and is known as the Festival of Lights! Diwali is part of a five-day festival celebrated with music, lights, fireworks and traditional sweets. Many prepare for the festival by cleaning and decorating their home, donning new clothes to take part in the family puja, in which prayers of devotion are offered to Lakshmi.... Our thoughts go out to those back in India who are struggling with the pandemic and feel for those locals who have family back in their im home land. What are you doing to celebrate Diwali this year?

11.01.2022 I have had so many memories growing up in Port Lincoln and playing at the Train playground. There used to be a different train there back in my day, no BBQ area, no toilets, it used to get flooded out and we'd burn our bums on the slippery dip. The old train that was there before this one, was way more fun to play on than this one, in my opinion. That train has now been restored and is on the PichiRichi track which is just incredible to see.! Unfortunately the train in t...he playground now is set to be removed on the 7th of July, not just because of one incident with one kid but because it needs a lot more work to be done to it to be safe. "A safety and risk review following a recent incident at Port Lincoln’s Train Playground, involving the decommissioned train engine, has identified a number of risks and as a result Council has reluctantly decided to remove the train from the playground. Despite previous modifications to remove as many risks as possible, unfortunately a risk to the safety of children remains. Council has also identified that the steel tube ‘play train’ in the same park poses unacceptable safety risks, and the play equipment will also need to be removed. Mayor Brad Flaherty said, Playgrounds are a place where families come to play and spend time together and we need to ensure they are accessible, safe and enjoyable for everyone to use. It was a tough decision to remove the train, as it has been part of the playground since 1983, but it is the right decision for the safety of our children. Yes, there's lots of memories there, but now we have an opportunity to update and make it a fun and safe place for the next generation of kids coming through. Unfortunately things dont last when out in the weather for so long. Hopefully we can look at replacing it with some more fun Train stuff to play on and climb on for kids to explore and be kids. What are some ideas you'd like considered for replacement?

09.01.2022 Yesterday I attended the official opening of the Leisure centre expansion It was terrific to celebrate such a fantastic facility that is already so well used! Even with the difficulties that occurred with the original builder going into administration the council managed to successfully deliver the expansion with a relatively small delay and blow out of the budget. Considering the circumstances it was the best result for the community.

06.01.2022 BEACH ALERT EXTENDED Please be advised that Friday’s record storm event is continuing to impact the marine and beach environment. 06.01.2022 As you all know, COVID-19 has not only caused a major health crisis around the world, but it has had a catastrophic economic impact, including here in South Aus...tralia. Business SA has been working as hard as possible to support members, and the broader business community during this time of crisis. This has occurred through advice on how to manage employee matters to help with explaining government restrictions and how businesses can access support. We have also been lobbying hard to ensure both State and Federal Governments know what needs to be done to support businesses. While Business SA absolutely understands the pressure members are under, we are requesting you to spare 10 minutes to answer our long-standing Survey of Business Expectations (SOBE), powered by William Buck, for the March Quarter 2020. SOBE is the longest running business survey in South Australia, now in its 40th year, and as such it is vitally important to continue with the survey even in this difficult environment in order to maintain our historical data set. While the impacts of COVID-19 are obvious, obtaining accurate data on the level of impact on the business community, will also assist with our lobbying efforts, which will ultimately benefit you the business owner. As per usual, we have asked businesses to respond to our standard SOBE questions, with a section of supplementary questions on the impact of COVID-19. We genuinely appreciate your time during a what is a very difficult period for many of you. We would also like to acknowledge that we are supporting the Australian Chamber of Commerce with a national business impact survey which was sent separately. While we would not ordinarily send out two surveys in short succession, this is an extraordinary time and we also recognise the need to support national measures to bolster business support in consideration of the Federal Government’s higher capacity to support all Australian businesses. To complete the short, anonymous survey click the link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BusinessSAMarchQ20SOBE By filling in the survey, you can also choose to enter the draw to win an iPad. Thank you for your support of the Business SA Survey of Business Expectations, powered by William Buck. We look forward to hearing your views on our economy and your operating conditions.

02.01.2022 Did you Know at one point before I was elected to council I forgot there was even a library here?! it just never entered my mind as I have not been an avid reader Since i gave it up after finding i I was spending too much of my sleeping time reading! then i I visited the Flinders Ranges and experienced the Ridge top tour and learned about the geology and rocks etc ... I read Reg Spriggs’ book that I bought at Arkaroola which sparked my interest in reading again. Then the desire to know more about rocks was also sparked. Someone suggested I check out the library! don’t do what I did and forget we have this valuable resource! There's so much more to do and see than just books too! When is the last time you visited our library?
