21.01.2022 Well unfortunately my election campaign came to an end this morning. I held out hope until the last minute though just couldn't crack the top 7. Naturally, I am disappointed with the result as I really wanted to represent and lead our region forward.... It wasn't to be and despite the result I walk away with my head held high and believe I am better for the experience. To get close to 700 primary votes in a field of 15 candidates is something I am proud of and I thank everyone for their vote. At the end of the day I was a 'eleventh hour' nomination, literally submitted in the last half hour before it closed. So the odds were against me from the start, yet I had a red-hot crack and though fell just short. During my campaign, one thing I was reminded of is that when you put yourself out there you open yourself up to the good & bad. So I've shared a quote as well to remind everyone to be the person that gets out there and has a crack, not be the one that sits back and plays the critic. To the 7 councillors elected, I congratulate you all and trust that you will do what's best for the Southern Grampians shire. Thank you to everyone again for their support, it doesn't go unnoticed!
18.01.2022 For all those who supported me, voted for me, were hoping I could lead & represent them on council and who reached out with their concerns & ideas. Although unfortunately I won’t get the chance to do so, I encourage you to get behind this bloke - Bruach Colliton. We shared many conversations during the election campaign and were on the same page with probably everything we discussed.... So if you want someone similar to me and someone to represent you, get behind Bruach. He is very approachable, so reach out to him on here or go see him at The Rox and buy a coffee and have a yarn. I call him Obama, Bruach Obama . Also, he isn’t on Facebook but former mayor Albert Calvano is on council again and will look after you. So get in touch with him also. Hopefully will see you all again in 2024 when there’s a different outcome!
15.01.2022 UPDATE: We have been provided with a further update of first preference votes from Group B ballots. Still a bit to go yet, so we’ll sit tight and hope that a late charge for the finish line happens .
09.01.2022 UPDATE: The waiting game continues! At this stage we will have to wait until the results are calculated tomorrow morning. Then the declaration of results will take place tomorrow afternoon around midday.... Will keep you all in the loop with results or if things change. Thanks again for your support & interest in updates.
05.01.2022 This message last night from a mate helped give me some valuable perspective. It also meant a lot, with him being a very popular & influential figure in our community. The perspective it gave was just because I wasn’t elected, doesn’t mean it was an ‘unsuccessful’ campaign.... I hadn’t said it to him, but during the election I said to myself & others that regardless of the result, I hope by me running it could inspire others to nominate in the future. What I wanted people to see is that you don’t need to be a certain age, a business owner, university educated or even VCE educated, wealthy, from a certain family or organisation to run for council. Everyone has something to offer and if you genuinely care about your community - you are a worthy candidate. So next election, whether it’s Southern Grampians or otherwise, I encourage you to nominate for council and make a difference in your community .
