24.01.2022 Murrurundi VRA would like to thank Steve and Carol from the Railway Hotel Murrurundi for generously donating $500 raised from their raffles. The funds will be put towards rope rescue equipment.

24.01.2022 Some of our members attended the VRA regional meeting in February and met members of several other squads. Their reports make interesting reading with a wide variety of Rescue situations having been attended from simple to very complex. It brings home our own aims to train in as diverse a range of scenarios as possible. In training we have undertaken our First Aid resuscitation refresher course with thanks to Julie Cornall from Murrurundi Ambulance, we have attended a joint ...training exercise with Quirindi VRA and we held a Vertical Rescue training day at Paradise Park for our new members to get to grips with the basics of ascending and descending with a variety of equipment. Our new truck is coming along. We are still working out our storage space and working through some teething issues as time permits. New members are welcome and can contact Hayden on 0411610936. 23.01.2022 A couple of weeks ago CDRS posted a picture of one of their volunteers who responded to a pager call during the middle of a haircut. A member of the public con...tacted the squad after noticing the scar on the back of our volunteer James' head and asked what had happened, as she has a 4 year old son who has just had decompression surgery for chiari malformation recently and has a similar scar. His mum Casie said she would love Mathew to meet someone with the same scar that he has, so we organised for him to come to our rescue base and have a tour. He was so excited to meet someone with a scar like him. Our volunteers James and Robbie gave Mathew and his dad Michael a tour of the base and trucks, and let Mathew have a go at using some of the tools. The smile on his face makes what we do very rewarding. What a brave boy to go through what he has been through. Thanks to Mathew and his parents for great afternoon, we are hoping he joins the squad one day.

22.01.2022 Thanks to our members for all their hard work in bringing our 4x4 Rescue truck project so much closer to completion. With predominantly fine tuning of storage and installation of additional electronics to go, we are ready to roll.

18.01.2022 Members of Murrurundi VRA, who are also support members of Quirindi VRA, were called to assist with an animal rescue in Quirindi on Monday night. A pony had fallen through the fibreglass lid of a septic system. Murrurundi was called as we have put together some basic equipment for large animal rescue and were happy to assist. The pony was quickly extracted without further undue distress using Murrurundis strap hooks to easily position hauling straps and animal rescue slide to ensure a smooth exit from the pit. Murrurundi members were happy to have been able to be of assistance.

18.01.2022 Thanks to the Boys group at Murrurundi Youth Centre for the invitation tonight and their great attention and participation during our visit to talk about the Volunteer Rescue Association, its history in our town and what we do. Members Toby, Trent and Hayden showed them through the gear including some of the early hand tools and demonstrated our Hurst hydraulic cutters and spreaders. The boys then had a turn at the old enerpac cutters with the hand pump to show them the difference the new technology has made. Well done to all.

17.01.2022 Come and join Murrurundi VRA and view the world from a different angle! Come and hang out with us.

12.01.2022 Heading into the Holiday season, we are carrying on with training and getting on with the many other tasks that we need to complete. Our Trainees are working hard to complete each new challenge and doing very well. We are very happy to thank the team from CREST NSW for spending almost eight hours up at Mt Helen cleaning up the radio shed and installing a new radio repeater for the VRA as well as supplying several radios for us to take best advantage of the system. This has va...stly improved our radio network and coverage. CREST NSW are volunteers who provide emergency communications and event support to community based organisations. Event support is one of their training platforms, honing the team's skill in preparation for unexpected emergencies. Their core business is communications, setting up networks to cover topography where mobile phone networks struggle. Their teams can deploy simple or complex networks depending on needs using commercial frequencies and equipment. www.crest.org.au See more

11.01.2022 Two of our members, Hayden and Trent, headed up into the North Western section of Barrington Tops this afternoon to look for a missing gentleman camper and his trusty hound. From our base, member Sue relayed vital updates on the situation via limited mobile coverage and our VRA radio. His family were concerned for his well-being after not receiving any communication since the 10th of February. Later in the day the gentleman was found in good spirits in the Upper Allyn River ...area, outside of our search area which is a great result. Barrington Tops is a vast wilderness area with limited mobile phone reception, challenging terrain and variable weather conditions that can catch people off guard. Having said that, its a great spot and well worth a visit. We recommend that anyone heading into such areas leave travel plans with family members and where possible check in to re-assure them your ok, especially if for whatever reason your plans change. It only takes a flat car battery or a fallen tree to turn a fun day trip into an overnight stay you may not be prepared for. Murrurundi VRA Rescue Squad would like to thank the NPWS rangers who assisted us, and all those who shared the original post on face book to get word out there that he was being missed. Murrurundi VRA Rescue Squad are always happy to help out those in need. Anywhere, Anytime. See more

07.01.2022 Thanks to Department of Social Services Transitions - Volunteer Grants 2018 the members of Murrurundi VRA now have a terrific new reverse cycle split system air conditioner in our training room. The new system warms the room beautifully in a very short time which will make training nights in winter (and summer) a bit more comfortable for our volunteer members. Thanks to Warren Ward Refrigeration from Scone for such a quick response to our job request and next day installation... before the really cold weather kicked in. Thanks go to Murrurundi member Trent Jacobs for volunteering three days of his time with members from other VRA squads and other Emergency Services to join search teams at Dumaresq Dam near Armidale where a person was missing for some days. The persons boat was found partly submerged in the dam and they had failed to return home. After extensive searches over many days in and around the dam the person was recovered from the dam. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the person. A tragic accident. Trent participated in the ground search as well as base and radio operations. At present with training we are concentrating on new members Rescue Operator Inductions and shortly moving on to Rescue Operator Minimum certificates. This will be interspersed with rope rescue training and lots of equipment maintenance over coming weeks. We are always looking to welcome new members. Our regular training night is Monday at 7.00pm at 222 Mayne Street. Come along or call Hayden 0411610936 for more information. See more

05.01.2022 While returning from a training exercise, one of our members spotted a family traveling through our area that needed assistance. We received this Thankyou note, We are wishing the pooch a quick recovery. Thank you so so much Trent for your help. You magically appeared out of no where and help our family out last Sunday 29th September.... It might not seem much to some, we where driving to Tamworth with our caravan in tow. My husband our daughter and our 3 dogs. 2 Chihuahuas and 1 Kelpie when our Kelpie fell out of the back window. We could not believe it, my husband running to pick her up off the middle of the road we thought she was dead. Holly our Kelpie somehow was alive. Trent helping us and rushing us to the vet in Tamworth we thank you so much. Holly has a fractured neck, face wounds and bits off her in spots.

01.01.2022 A huge thanks to Nellibelle's Cakes and Bakes for the fantastic support they have shown to the VRA over the last few years. Terrific effort and much appreciated.
