16.01.2022 Severe Thunderstorm Warning for DAMAGING WINDS, LARGE HAILSTONES and HEAVY RAINFALL For people in Mid North Coast, Hunter, North West Slopes and Plains and part...s of Central Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains, Upper Western and Northern Tablelands Forecast Districts. Issued at 1:37 pm Friday, 18 December 2020. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY TO PRODUCE HEAVY FALLS, LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS Plan Image Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Port Macquarie, Taree, Armidale, Tamworth, Moree and Lightning Ridge. Walgett AWS recorded 90 km/h wind gust at 01:11 pm. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences. * Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill. * Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water. * If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. * Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. * After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides. * Unplug computers and appliances. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well. * Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500. The next warning is due to be issued by 4:40 pm.

11.01.2022 Tonight our members were put through their paces with a couple of scenarios. First our members went in search of a farmer who hadn't arrived to collect his daughter. He was located near the shed after and incident involving a jigsaw and is power lead. The incident became more complicated when the casualty's daughter arrived on scene. The second scenario was an mva which evolved into a search for a young person who had been ejected from the vehicle. The team worked great together, leaned lots and had some fun. #vrarescue #AnytimeAnywhere

10.01.2022 We have a plain message for you: slow down.

09.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day to all our VRA Dads #vrarescue

09.01.2022 With storm season nearby Narrabri VRA took the opportunity of a working bee to remove some potential sources of damage to our building from storms. We even had a friendly tree frog pop out to survey the work. I think we had his approval. May this be a friendly reminder to ensure your place is ready for the storm and fire season. Are you storm ready? #vrarescue

08.01.2022 The Bureau has confirmed that a La Niña has formed in the tropical Pacific, with climate models suggesting it's likely to remain until at least the end of 2020.... La Niña typically brings: A wetter-than-average spring and summer to northern and eastern Australia; Cooler-than-average days and warmer-than-average nights; Increased tropical cyclone numbers; An earlier start to the monsoon and wet season; Average fire risk; and Less intense but more prolonged heatwaves across southern Australia. But every La Niña event is different. Once La Niña develops it usually finishes the following autumn, but some events have lasted 2 or 3 years. Rainfall can also vary considerably. During the last big event of 2010-2012 rainfall was above average across most of Australia (we saw Category 5 tropical cyclone Yasi devastate far north Queensland communities during this period), whereas rainfall during the La Niña event of 2008-2009 was much more patchy. 04.01.2022 Our trucks spent some time in the yard today, not because they were misbehaving, but because Narrabri VRA hosted the region 2 captains meeting. A lot of work was discussed and completed by the leaders of the squads across the New England/ North West NSW. #VRARESCUE

02.01.2022 Triple Zero Calls: New government technology is allowing emergency service authorities to pinpoint exact locations of where people need assistance. Previously ...emergency service towers had to use pinging mobile phone towers to triangulate the position of an emergency. Minister for Communications Paul Fletcher was in Alexandria for the launch of 'Advanced Mobile Locations' (AML). "When you call 000 your location within metres will automatically be sent to fire, police or ambulance. Advanced mobile location (AML) is now enabled on iPhones & Android phones; if you call 000 your location within metres is automatically sent to fire, police or ambulance." www.7NEWS.com.au #TripleZero #7NEWS

01.01.2022 This week is International Control Room Week, and it's a great opportunity to showcase the control room operations performed by WICEN NSW communications operato...rs! WICEN NSW is a specialist communications squad of the NSW Volunteer Rescue Association Inc. WICEN NSW communications operators can be found working in a wide range of control centres for different emergency service agencies at times of crisis. They can be assisting in the management of bushfires with the NSW RFS, or in the management of storms with the NSW SES. They can be the calm and reassuring voice over the phone assisting the public in time of dire bushfire emergencies on the NSW Bushfire Information Line. WICEN NSW operators can also be found in makeshift, remote area forward command centres in the field, in their role as remote area communications specialists, working with multi-agency search and rescue responders led by NSW Police. Thank you to our WICEN NSW volunteer operators for stepping forward to serve the community in times of crisis. We give a special thanks to those control centre colleagues who perform the toughest job of providing critical emergency responses 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to keep their communities safe. #InternationalControlRoomWeek #UnsungHeroes #vrarescue
