16.01.2022 The Price of Art - Some people have no idea the costing that goes into an artwork ready for sale...to assist you with this query let me explain some basic information as a guide. Generally framing a Watercolour Artwork with glass and different types of materials will be very high. Where as a Plain box canvas can reduce the price considerably. Professional framers mount the work tediously to ensure no water damage or sun damage can ruin the watercolour. A small A4 painting cou...ld end up anywhere up to $150 dollars to frame minimum. So the question is then...how much would an Artist declare on their work? Some will charge per inch, or per 10cm square, size and weight of papers and others per hour. To add their art worth eg A4 size = $100 + frame = $150 TOTAL IS $250 Some with use the third rule. A third for frame, materials and artwork labour worth. Others double frame price as their art worth. Next time when you see an artists painting, consider what is the work actually worth from that artist. The time and meticulous application and the story behind it alll all add to the finished piece. The frame is merely the furniture to keep it safe for many years to come. See more
