24.01.2022 Today’s job took me over to Dubbo to certify a dual control passenger side brake pedal setup and inspect/certify the old driving school car back to standard again. Lucky for me my wife is a good driver or I’d install one of these in my car

24.01.2022 Below is a link to vsi06 relating to modifying a vehicle up to 4.5t gvm in NSW. It is a guide to get you started when modifying your car or bike. It has some examples of modifications that do or dont require certification, references to the the federal legislation, state based standards and Australian Design Rules (ADRs) affecting vehicle modifications. It has all the required information to point you in the right direction to build your own knowledge when modifying your light vehicle. https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au//vsi-06-light-vehicle-modificat

22.01.2022 One of todays jobs completed. A new Toyota Landcruiser VDJ79R had a change of seating capacity having an additional centre seat installed taking its seating capacity up from 2 to 3 seats.

22.01.2022 I have been fairly busy lately studying and adding more categories to my VSCCS Certifiers Licence along with completing my Lead Auditor and Quality Management Auditor Qualifications. I can now certify the majority of Modified Car (up to 4.5 Ton GVM), Motorcycle and Heavy Vehicles (over 12 Ton GVM). Below are copies of the VSCCS categories that I am able to certify, if uncertain give me a call or email and see if I am able to help you. I am now also a certified Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Auditor and will soon be auditing transport companies and operators for their Mass, Maintenance, BFM and AFM schemes under the NHVR.

21.01.2022 On any truck over 4.5 Ton GVM whenever you change the body (for example a Pantech body to Table Top Tray) records cant be changed by an adjustment of records with Service NSW. You will need an inspection, a VSCCS Certificate issued and modification plate affixed. The same goes for Tow Couplings such as a Turntables or Pintle Hooks. Other areas may require further inspection and certifying for example; Tipper Truck Bodies are required to meet the Australian Standard 1418.8 wh...ich covers areas of Safety and Compliance for - Hydraulic Cylinders (uncontrolled movement in event of a failure), Emergency stops, Safety Props, Operator Controls and Safety Labelling. Just to name a few. I am qualified to Certify J (Body Mounting) & P (Tow Coupling) modifications and most other Heavy Vehicle Modifications. Email or call me for any questions, Ill be glad to help. 21.01.2022 Todays job took me over to Dubbo to certify a dual control passenger side brake pedal setup and inspect/certify the old driving school car back to standard again. Lucky for me my wife is a good driver or Id install one of these in my car

19.01.2022 I am now an NHVAS Registered Auditor for the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR). Those businesses that have NHVAS accreditation for either Mass Management , Maintenance Management, (BFM) Basic Fatigue Management or (AFM) Advanced Fatigue Management, I can now carry out the auditing required under those schemes. Call or email for any questions relating to the NHVAS Scheme.

18.01.2022 This near new Toyota Bus I inspected today has had the offside rear seat removed, its seating capacity is now reduced from 14 to 12 seats meaning a change in its vehicle category from MD2 to MD1 (it can now be driven with a car licence). All the holes from seat mounting points and the seatbelt removal have been blanked off to a professional standard so there is no egress/entering of fumes, dust etc into the interior. The three rows of centre rear seats have had child restraint anchorage points installed that have also been certified by myself.

18.01.2022 Engine conversions require VSCCS certification if they are a non standard variant of the vehicles original manufacturer. Give me a call or message regarding engine swaps or similar modifications. Dont forget I can also certify the majority of modifications on light vehicles, heavy trucks and motorcycles

17.01.2022 With my work there is a lot of time spent referencing, studying and always learning. Australian Design Rules, Australian and National Standards, Motor Vehicle Standards Act 1989, Heavy Vehicle National Law, Road Transport various Regulation and Acts and the list goes on .

16.01.2022 VSI 09 is another interesting guideline. It relates to wheels and tyres on your light vehicle up to 4.5 ton GVM. A few key points to remember are if your tyres are 7% larger (or 7% smaller) than the manufacturers option it must be certified. Wheel track cant exceed 25mm and with split braking systems the same size tyres or same tyre combination from the manufacturers must be fitted to front and rear axles. Road handling, braking system performance, wheel nuts/studs, speedomet...er accuracy, tyre speed/weight ratings, wheel track, tyres contacting the body, steering or suspension, vehicle dimensions are just some of the things that may be compromised with different wheel/tyre fitment. Below is a link to VSI09 https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au//vsi-09-alternative-wheels-tyre Contact me, email, phone or inbox if you need tyres/rims checked or certified.

16.01.2022 On Heavy Vehicles whenever a body is changed or fitted (pantech body to tabletop etc) and when a tow coupling type is changed or fitted (fifth wheel, ring feder etc) it requires certification under the VSCCS scheme, a VSCCS compliance certificate issued and modification plate fitted. I will gladly help out with the certification process just give me a call or email and I can arrange an inspection time, date & place. It doesnt matter where you are located in nsw if you cant come to me I will come to you.

15.01.2022 Small job today certifying the fold down access step to this bus. Not just a step certification though, occupant protection, step dimensions and things like access/egress/emergency exits also have to be checked for compliance to relevant ADRs

14.01.2022 A bit of travel over near Kandos for a job today (via the scenic route). Next time I think Ill just take the bike . Need something certified I come to you, doesnt matter where about in NSW.

14.01.2022 If you have replaced your cars rims and tyres, give me a call to see if they are legal or require certification. Other tests such as speedo accuracy tests, range of suspension travel, braking efficiency etc may also be required when you change your cars wheels/tyres. Below is a link to the latest RMS vehicle standards sheet no.9, a guideline for alternative wheels and tyres. https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au//vsi-09-alternative-wheels-tyre

12.01.2022 Just a little 250km round trip today to inspect this little Vanguard Cabriolet. It is the project of a Panelbeater/Bodybuilder with 50 years+ experience. Great to see the ability and skills of old school Panelbeaters, a rare thing these days.

11.01.2022 Its been a little busy lately, time for a few more posts. Fuel Tanks - Any Non OEM fuel tank (that is any tank not offered by the original manufacturer) may be certified if compliant upon inspection. The fuel tank pictured isnt a good example and the customer is removing it and re-installing the original tank. The cars evaporative emission control system is not hooked up, the boot smells of residual fuel and fumes (potential for fumes to enter into the occupant area), the ...filler cap (should) be external, there is no room for expansion when the tank is 100% full (standards state there must be at least 5% area for expansion), the top of the tank vents external (near the exhaust) and more. VSB14 section LM explains more on fuel systems for modified vehicles, if you need any assistance in modifying your car give me a call or send me an email and Ill be glad to assist. See more

10.01.2022 Check your vehicles Bull bar for compliance, especially relating to vehicles manufactured after 31 December 2002. There is a Ministerial Exemption Order to allow vehicles fitted with bull bars that do not necessarily comply with applicable NSW vehicle standards, including AS 4876.1, to be continued be used on NSW roads. This unless extended again ends September 2019 so be warned... Bull bars after 31 Dec 2002 need to comply to Australian Standards AS 4876.12002 Motor vehicle... frontal protection systems Part 1: Road user protection (except Clause 3.2, Road user protection criterion). Bull bars also must comply with the Australian Design Rules applicable to the vehicle they are fitted on and schedule 2. ADRs affected by bull bars could relate to the vehicle dimensions (how low it is to the ground, height, width, projections), lighting systems (obscured lights), line of vision (11m in front), obscured number plates, air bags, general safety (pedestrian safety, sharp edges etc), frontal impact protection and more. Below is a link to a NSW Centre for road safety page PDF with information regarding bull bars. https://roadsafety.transport.nsw.gov.au//bull-bar-toleranc If you have any questions feel free to phone, email or inbox me.

09.01.2022 Have you Modified your car or trailers suspension. If your tyres, rims, axles etc comply and its safe we can upgrade your vehicle or trailers Gross Vehicle Mass to increase its load carrying capacity.

08.01.2022 I have a fair amount of customers contact me with modified Pre ADR (Australian Design Rule) cars. These are vehicles are manufactured for the Australian market prior to 1st January 1969. Certain modifications such as fitting a performance or larger capacity engine require mandatory safety upgrades to comply with a minimum set of NSW safety standards (even though they may or may not have not been fitted to the car originally). See the attachment below taken from VSB14 that outlines these safety items. Any questions please send through inbox or email and I will reply.

05.01.2022 A bit of travel over near Kandos for a job today (via the scenic route). Next time I think I’ll just take the bike . Need something certified I come to you, doesn’t matter where about in NSW.
