22.01.2022 Kicks off tomorrow guys! Hope to see you all there!

22.01.2022 Hill climbing is one of the oldest forms of motorsports in which drivers compete against the clock to complete an uphill course. The hill climb format offered a... straightforward venue for automotive manufacturers to show off their products real-world capabilities. In the 1930s, 1950s, and then the 1960s hill climbing was the theater of great battles through terrifying landscapes between factory team teams from such respected racing marques as Auto-Union, Daimler-Benz, Porsche, Ferrari, Abarth, and BMW. Before the creation and dominance of the Porsche 910 and later 909 Bergspyders in the European Mountain Championship, the Porsche 906 was one of the biggest threats for an overall win on any given weekend on a mountain. The Porsche Kardex states that chassis 906-115 left the factory on March 9th, 1966 and was delivered to its first owner, Mr. Ermanno Spazzapan. A gentlemen driver known for his consistent speed, Spazzapan competed in major Italian hill climb events throughout the 1966 season in 906-115. Of the ten competitions 906-115 entered, there was an outright victory at Antignano-Monte Burrone, a second overall at Vittorio Veneto-Consoglio, and several strong class results. In that same spirit, we are looking forward to the Race to the Clouds as @zwart takes the Porsche 935 through 156 turns and climbs 13,000 feet at Pikes Peak on August 30th. #roadscholars @ Road Scholars

22.01.2022 NORTHAM MOTORSPORT FESTIVAL UPDATE Following due consideration of the Governments direction and in consultation with the event stakeholders, the VSCCWA advises that it has made the decision to postpone the Northam Motorsport Festival until a future date to be determined. The key points to the decision are as follows:... The Vintage Sports Car Club has postponed the Northam Motor Sports Festival which was to be held on 4 & 5 April this includes the Eco Village Mt Ommanney Hill-climb and the Bendigo Bank Northam Flying Fifty. We aim to hold the event later this year, depending on the availability of a suitable weekend and further government advice about public events. This announcement follows the Australian Governments direction that all non-essential gatherings of 500 or more be cancelled from Monday 16 March. Our club understands the disappointment and inconvenience this will cause to the public, competitors, our event officials and the Northam business community who were planning to be part of a great event in three weeks time. Competitors can seek a refund of their entry fee by providing their BSB and bank account details to [email protected] or by advising the club to hold their fees in credit for the next event. Please contact the Club Secretary David Moir by email to [email protected] if you have any further queries. Glen Swarbrick VSCCWA Club President

15.01.2022 Enzo the driver: determination and destiny After losing both his father and brother after the First World War, with the memories of seeing car races held around... Modena as a child with them, he dreamt about working with cars and becoming a racing driver himself. In Turin, Enzo Ferrari was turned down by Fiat but he managed to get behind the wheel of motorized chassis recovered from a small workshop, that were to be taken to a Milanese coachbuilder. He already felt like a professional driver and started frequenting the bars where he knew the champions regularly met. He was self-confident, unafraid of anything and in 1919 he took a decisive step: he bought a CMN and made his racing debut at the Parma-Poggio di Berceto. He was now a racing driver and received an invitation to compete at the Targa Florio in Sicily. Bad weather and technical issues deprived him of victory but his performance didn’t go unnoticed and the following year he returned to Sicily with an official Alfa car and brought home his first success: second overall and first in his class. In addition to his ingenuity and acute intelligence, Ferrari’s true driving talent was immediately clear: his ability to be really fast which respecting the mechanical components and avoiding risks and accidents. The complete story, on TCCT.com, highlights the reasons for his extraordinary success. A success also touched by fate when in 1923 he won the Circuito del Savio and received, from Countess Paolina Baracca, mother of the famed World War I flying ace who had died in action during the war, the Prancing Horse emblem her son used on his airplanes. It will bring you luck... and so it was. Next Monday: The Scuderia is born. Photo credit: Massimo Grandi

07.01.2022 Amazing facts & figures.

04.01.2022 Further to our advice on 16 March of the postponement of the Northam Motor Sport Festival from the scheduled dates of 4/5 April 2020, we have now reluctantly decided that it is not feasible to run the event this year. We have made this decision in consultation with our Northam Organising Committee and other key stakeholders as we are unlikely to find a suitable date for the event in the latter half of 2020, and we do not yet have a clear timing on the lifting of government r...estrictions for large public gatherings and sporting events. We are now focusing on the planning for the event to be run on 10th & 11April 2021. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to get in contact. [email protected]
