18.01.2022 REPOST: By supporting our children, young people and communities, by working with them, listening to them, and providing support to nurture them, we will ensure that they are able to build and enjoy strong futures, thereby strengthening Australia’s resilience, says our CEO Lindsay Cane AM as our report After the Disaster Recovery for Australia’s Children (co-produced with UNICEF Australia) is released. The report found that children and young people are particularly su...sceptible to the impacts of natural disasters like bushfires or floods, and that at these times, the needs of children are often overlooked. The report recommends an urgent review of the policies that guide disaster planning, response and recovery efforts to ensure that the specific needs of children are identified and addressed and also recommends more funding into children’s mental health programs and education for communities on how to better support children after natural disasters.
