22.01.2022 Every day around 18 Victorians will have a cardiac arrest, with only 1 in 10 surviving. We know that bystander intervention has the greatest impact on improving that survival rate. Performing CPR and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) lifts their chances of survival by 68 percent. Thousands of Victorians are still with us because a brave bystander stepped in. Ambulance Victoria’s recent research has revealed a 50% decline in cardiac arrest survival rates during t...he first wave of COVID-19 in Victoria. We need your help. So Ambulance Victoria, with support from Victoria University, has launched ‘Shocktober’; a month long campaign to increase AED awareness. GoodSAM (Smartphone Activated Medic) is an app that connects responders to patients in those critical first minutes of cardiac arrest while paramedics are on the way. If you are an adult (18 or older) that is familiar with CPR and the use of an AED, first-aid trained, or a registered health professional then you might just be the hero we need. As part of the Shoctober campaign, this week Victoria University with Ambulance Victoria will be hosting two GoodSAM information sessions: Tuesday 27 October 11am-11.30am via Zoom https://victoriauniversity.zoom.us/j/81565073429 Password: GoodSAM Thursday 29 October 3pm-3.30pm via Zoom https://victoriauniversity.zoom.us/j/81651937816 Password: GoodSAM Looking forward to seeing everyone get around this awesome initiative! Feel free to message us if you have any questions or queries
