17.01.2022 This is Edward James Nicholson, from Thebarton in Adelaide. He was just 20 years old when he was killed in action at Mouquet Farm on 23 August 1916. Contributed by a student from Adelaide Botanic High School, who found this wonderful photograph of Edward shortly after he enlisted. https://vwma.org.au/explore/people/187088 John Gardner MP
11.01.2022 A great resource for keen students of the First World War. This is a series of recorded talks on artillery from Gallipoli to the Armistice, and will help you understand what gunners and their commanders were trying to do and how they went about it. It's a little difficult to navigate but there are real gems here. http://www.artilleryhistory.org/history_semi//podcasts.htm
04.01.2022 Samuel Murdock, from Warooka in country South Australia. He was only 21 when he was wounded in the legs and taken prisoner by the Germans in July 1916. He spent the remainder of the war in a POW camp, but survived and returned home to Australia. Samuel had two daughters and lived to be 92. https://vwma.org.au/explore/people/251224
03.01.2022 This is going to be an amazing resource!
01.01.2022 An excellent resource from the Australian War Memorial. 3D scans from the collection, with really useful explanatory text. A good way to visualise items without being able to see them in person. https://www.awm.gov.au/3dtreasures/
