24.01.2022 A 1-1 draw against Scotland to open the tournament. Took the lead early courtesy of a cool penalty from Matt Sparrow after Ian McMurray was brought down. Scotland equalised right on the 20 minute break and that's the way it stayed despite a host of chances that went begging. Rest day tomorrow then USA at the main stadium on Wednesday at 4pm local time.
20.01.2022 Never a dull moment in Thailand...
18.01.2022 Today's match against the USA will be streamed live via the SFA Thailand Facebook page. Kick off is at 4pm local time (5pm AWST)... might be a tad hot!
14.01.2022 Well, after a bright start to the tournament, the best we can finish now is fifth after going out of the main competition to the hosts Thailand on penalties last night. Despite controlling the game for much of the first half, we only had one goal to show for it thanks to an opportunistic strike from Eugene Dadi. Following a few forced changes at half time, we allowed the Thai's to work themselves into the game and it wasn't long before they drew level. This gave them a bit mo...re confidence and it wasn't long before they had the lead. To our credit, we regrouped and wrested control back but it still looked like it was going to be one of those games where the final ball went begging. Enter Vas Kalogeracos who chested down goalkeeper Cyril Sharrock's long ball to Matt Sparrow who coolly finished with five minutes to go. We continued to pile on the pressure but just couldn't find the winner and we were locked at 2-2 at the final whistle. The shootout got off to the worst start possible with Sparrow blazing over the bar. Sharrock got us back into it by saving their second attempt after Kalogeracos had made his. In almost a copy of the first penalty, Brian McKeown missed our third and despite Dusan Macura and Vesko Zmukic both converting, some well taken penalties by the Thai's ensured they got through 4-3. After some drama at the other pitch earlier in the day where Hong Kong walked off in dispute of a penalty decision, our game today is still to be finalised.
06.01.2022 So today we ran out 6-1 winners against USA. The damage was done early when big Dave Evans turned in from close range after the US defence failed to deal with a corner. Ian McMurray made it 2-0 shortly after with a driving header before Eugene Dadi converted a sublime free kick just before the the 20 minute break. Dadi was on the scoresheet again when he finished cooly after a good build up down the left to make it 4-0 at the main break.... This allowed us to make a few changes in the second half and get some run into a few legs and rest a few others. Two second half goals either side of the drinks break to Damien Todorovic made it 6-0 but the USA managed a consolation with almost the last kick of the game for it to finish 6-1. We now play Thailand in the quarter final on Thursday at 7pm local time (8pm AWST) after they finished second in group B with draws against New Zealand and Iran. Highlights via the link below...
