17.01.2022 An amazing surgeon! For the last 30 years, Dr. Abdullah al-Rabeeah, a pediatric surgeon and adviser to the Saudi Royal Court, has spearheaded a program that sep...arates conjoined twins who were born to poorer families from around the world. In November, he successfully completed his 48th surgery on a set of conjoined twins, Ahmed and Muhammed, from Libya. https://abcnews.go.com//saudi-surgeon-completes-48t/story

15.01.2022 [FREE MEMBERS-ONLY WEBINAR*] AMBA has launched an exciting new webinar series and we'd love our member-families to join us for our first one on Monday 20 April ...at 8:30pm AEST. "The unexpected teacher: Remote learning tips and tricks for parents who didn't expect to change careers" will guide you through how you can further prepare and support your child for a remote learning environment, routines, teaching tips, what schools are doing and their expectations, plus tips on well-being. Our webinar will be facilitated by Larissa Jordan, a graduate of RMIT with a Bachelor of Education (Primary and Adult education). She has over 15 years experience as a primary school teacher, including 5 years leading school curriculum development. Currently juggling remote learning for her 5 year old triplets and remote teaching her year 1 class, she also does a little volunteering on the side for AMBA. *These webinars are an exclusive member benefit for families who are members of an AMBA affiliated member-club or association. Access to the webinar is password protected. Please contact your club committee for the password to ensure you can access the webinar.

13.01.2022 Most people are surprised to know that around 1 in 20 men experience depression during their partners pregnancy (antenatal) and up to 1 in 10 new dads struggle... with depression following the birth of their baby (postnatal). Anxiety is thought to be as common and many men experience anxiety and depression at the same time. It is important to know that help is available and the earlier help is sought the better the outcome for dad and the family.

05.01.2022 What are the treatment options? If your TTTS is mild, you may require no treatment and it is possible that the condition will remain stable or improve. Your pre...gnancy will be closely monitored and if TTTS becomes more severe, your doctors may recommend intervention, such as laser surgery or amnioreduction (draining excess amniotic fluid from around the larger recipient twin). Laser ablation therapy involves finding every blood vessel connecting the babies and closing them to prevent the flow of blood from one baby to another and the possible risk of transfusion. See more

04.01.2022 Perinatal anxiety and depression can be difficult to recognise for a whole range of reasons. Symptoms are often dismissed as normal parts of pregnancy or early ...parenthood. Shame and stigma can lead to a mask of coping. Symptoms can look different for each person. Signs may include: - Feeling sad, low, or crying for no obvious reason - Persistent, generalised worry, often focused on fears for the health or wellbeing of your baby - Being nervous, on edge, or panicky - Being easily annoyed or irritated - Withdrawing from friends and family - Difficulties sleeping, even when your baby is sleeping - Abrupt mood swings - Feeling constantly tired and lacking energy - Physical symptoms like nausea, vomiting, cold sweats, lack of appetite - Having little or no interest in the things that normally bring you joy - Fear of being alone or with others - Finding it difficult to focus, concentrate or remember - Increased alcohol or drug use - Panic attacks (racing heart, palpitations, shortness of breath, shaking or feeling physically detached from your surroundings) - Developing obsessive or compulsive behaviours - Thoughts of death, suicide or harming your baby. There are also many other symptoms not listed here. If you or someone close to you experiences any symptoms or feelings that worry you for two weeks or more, please seek support.
