23.01.2022 Have a look at this Body Worn Camera footage of officers responding to a house fire in Camillo last night. Luckily no one was hurt - more details below... An officer from the Traffic Motorcycle Group was on patrol for an unrelated task when he observed a house on fire in Hemingway Drive, Camillo.... The officer stopped at the scene and requested further assistance, resulting in another Traffic Motorcycle Group officer arriving at the scene shortly after, followed by officers from Armadale Police Station. Information was received that a resident may have still been inside the burning house. The officers were initially unable to gain access to the side of the residence and several officers forced entry via the garage door and entered the burning structure to search for the resident, while other officers continued to attempt to gain access to the rear garden via neighbouring properties. A woman was quickly located in distress in the rear garden and it was confirmed no other person was home at the time. While the woman had been able to escape the fire, she was unable to safely leave the year garden and officers evacuated her to safety over a fence, using a ladder they found in the garden. Officers attended neighbouring properties to evacuate residents. Department of Fire and Emergency Services personnel attended the scene a short time later and extinguished the fire. The fire is not being treated as suspicious.

23.01.2022 Last Sunday, a significant and symbolic Aboriginal Flag Raising Ceremony took place on Wadjemup (Rottnest Island). For the first time, an Aboriginal flag was raised outside Rottnest Island Police Station the last of 163 flags to be raised at every police station across our state. The flags were raised by three of our Aboriginal cadets. In the past, thousands of Aboriginal men and boys were arrested and transported to the island to be imprisoned. ... The erection of a flag itself won’t change or repair all of the hurt and wrongs of the past, but a flag does recognise and respect Aboriginal people and it symbolises that we honour and respect the Aboriginal people as the custodians of the land we are on. This continues our journey.

The State Government has moved to regulate copper, similar to other metals like gold and silver, to tackle the growing problem of copper theft in Western Australia. 22.01.2022 Financial Crimes Squad detectives, acting on information from the National Indigenous Australians Agency, have charged a 53-year-old man as part of an investigation into suspected fraudulent conduct targeting the remote Warmun Community. It will be alleged the accused man approached the Warmun Community Council in 2013 and offered to replace a burnt building and build additional housing for staff. It will be further alleged the man advised the Council they would need to pay t...he funds upfront into a Trust Account and that the then Department of Housing would reimburse them the amount they paid for the works. The accused man did not have the authority to act on behalf of the then Department of Housing, nor did he submit any proposals or claims direct to the agency. The man had previously been engaged by the agency to work on infrastructure works in the region, including in the Warmun Community, and it is believed he used his existing relationship with the Council to negotiate the terms of the fraudulent work claims. Between October 2013 and May 2014 the Warmun Community Council received and paid 15 invoices totalling $2,990,275. It will be alleged the bank account on the invoices was the personal bank account of the accused, and not a Trust Account, and that he used the money for personal purchases and for gambling. The funds were not used to make payment for any of the promised building works. The matter was initially investigated by the National Indigenous Australians Agency, who provided their findings to WA Police Force for further assessment. Yesterday, Monday 14 December 2020, detectives from the Financial Crimes Squad executed a search warrant at a residence in College Court, Karrinyup, where a 53-year-old man was arrested. The 53-year-old Karrinyup man has been charged with 15 counts of ‘Gains Benefit by Fraud’. He was refused bail and is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today, Tuesday 15 December 2020.
