18.01.2022 Things you shouldn’t do Making a decision for you or a loved one to make a move to residential Aged Care can be very difficult, on all sorts of levels. There will often be conflicting opinions within the family about what you SHOULD dohere are some of the things we feel you should NOT do without seeking advice from a specialist: - Believe you fully understand the Aged Care puzzle as it applies to your circumstances... - Believe you can't afford any of the options that appeal to you - Decide how to pay Aged Care fees before understanding all of your options. - Decide to rent out your home without fully understanding the options and consequences - Decide you are going to have to sell your home before understanding the impact to your Age Pension and Aged Care fees - Incorrectly assume that all decisions must be made before you can get the care needed. It is also important to make sure that everyone impacted has the opportunity to speak and to ask questions. Let WA Aged Care Financial Solutions help you find peace of mind. 16.01.2022 Take a well earned rest ... taking some time out from caring is crucial and known as respite. Respite can be provided in your own home, in a community setting or in an Aged Care home. Respite care offers the opportunity for you or your carer to take a break. This may be for a few hours, a day, a night or even a few weeks. Respite care is provided by residential Aged Care homes and by community care services under the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) and is extende...d to people with dementia and challenging behaviours. More information is available on the My Aged Care website (https://www.myagedcare.gov.au/respite-care). If you wish to find out more about your financial journey into Aged Care give us a call on 1300 827 229.

14.01.2022 When someone is unable to continue living independently in their own home, it is generally time to consider a permanent move into Aged Care. Entry into a Government funded Aged Care home requires approval by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT). Your doctor can make initial contact with My Aged Care, or you can call 1800 200 422 to organise an ACAT assessment.... After being approved by an ACAT for Government funded residential care, you can begin looking for your future home. Where possible, visit a number of homes - just as you would when buying or renting a house. This will enable you to gauge the feel of your new home. Accommodation will range from single rooms with an ensuite, to rooms with shared bathroom facilities. Some more expensive facilities offer small suites. Residents can expect services covering all the usual needs of daily living at no extra cost including basic accommodation and meals, laundry, cleaning, toiletry goods, social and recreational activities, utilities and the maintenance of buildings and grounds. You can also expect that staff will be on call to provide assistance with personal care, mobility, communication and any rehabilitation support. Services as appropriate to individual care needs may incur additional fees. Understanding the fees which are generally payable daily and invoiced monthly - is a critical aspect of the transition to Aged Care. It is strongly recommended you seek advice prior to any decisions being made. For people with dementia, it is important to ask a home whether it offers separate or secure dementia specific units. Many also offer a secure garden area specifically designed for people with dementia. There are homes that cater to a specific cultural and linguistic group or may offer culturally appropriate services. Pets can help lessen the feeling of loneliness and isolation, and some homes are happy to accommodate you and your pet. Some even have live-in pets. 13.01.2022 Understanding the costs of Aged Care Nearly half of all Australians being assessed as needing full-time residential Aged Care move in to a facility within one month of that assessment, which is often triggered by an unexpected event, such as a fall or even a decline in health of one member of a couple, affecting both of them. This means you, your partner or your family must make important decisions at a difficult time.... What can you do? What are your options? What will it cost? Will you keep your house and rent it out? Should it be sold? What difference does it make? What will happen to your Age Pension? How will you pay your accommodation costs? What are the fees? How will this affect your Will? These questions often require urgent answers and there are conflicting opinions from family members and service providers, as they all now seek to help. Throw in filling out Centrelink forms, and things can quickly become overwhelming. WA Aged Care Financial Solutions can assist you to get the best possible financial outcome for your situation. For more information you can visit our website at: www.agedcarefswa.com or call 1300 827 229.
12.01.2022 Costs for Residential Aged Care Aged Care homes charge a range of fees to cover the cost of your care, accommodation and living expenses, and these vary enormously between facilities, and from resident to resident. Your Centrelink/DVA entitlements are affected by your level of income and your financial assets. The cost of your Aged Care is also affected by income and assets assets which may, or may not, include the family home.... Understanding the rules and seeking specialist advice from an Aged Care financial adviser to ensure you achieve the best outcome for your personal situation is strongly recommended. Talk to us today on 1300 827 229 to discuss how best to fund your entry into Aged Care.
11.01.2022 In our business we hear lots of questions about moving into an Aged Care facility, including How will I know if an Aged Care facility will suit me or my loved one? The best way to get an idea on whether a facility suits is to visit and, if possible, speak to the staff and to the people living in the home. If you are visiting or on a tour, take the time to talk to other residents about their thoughts and experiences.... Another way to assess suitability is to see if respite care is available - there may be an opportunity to register for respite and experience a short-term stay. Am I free to come and go as I please? You are able to leave your Aged Care facility for up to 52 nights in a financial year. This is called social leave. This 52 day allocation period cannot be increased. What if I need to go to hospital? The time you spend in hospital will not count towards your social leave, but youll still have to pay your usual fees and payments. The Government will continue to pay appropriate subsidies to your Aged Care home while you are in hospital. Talk to us today on 1300 827 229 to find out more about your financial journey into Aged Care.
10.01.2022 Home Care Packages A Home Care Package (HCP) provides services that will help you to remain at home for as long as possible, as well as giving you choice and flexibility in the way that care and support is provided. There are four types of packages available which deliver different levels of care.... The hours of care are increased at each level of care; more hours of care and services are delivered under Home Care Package Level 4 compared to Level 1. Home Care Package services are based on your individual needs. Services may include personal assistance with bathing, showering, communication or taking your medication; domestic assistance for household jobs; food and nursing services; transport; and home maintenance for minor general repairs. To receive a Home Care Package you will need to be assessed by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT). The Government covers most of the cost of care but you may be asked to contribute towards the cost of delivering your services. The maximum amount you may be asked to pay depends on your income and unavoidable expenses, such as pharmaceutical bills, rent, utilities and other living expenses. 06.01.2022 Financial Advice for Aged Care The financial implications of Aged Care are complex, with relevant facts and figures changing regularly throughout each year. 06.01.2022 At a time when your main concern is the health and welfare of loved ones, you are faced with the complex financial issues of Aged Care. A specialist financial adviser can explain the rules as they relate to your circumstances, and make sure that all aspects of your financial situation are addressed. This will enable you to concentrate on finding the best place for care. While every situation is different, there are some common questions when considering Aged Care, which can i...nclude: will the family home have to be sold or are there other options? will the Centrelink or DVA pension be lost? what are the Aged Care fees and how will they be paid? will there be enough money to afford long term care? will there be enough spending money? Keep in mind, not all financial advisers are experienced in dealing with the financial complexity of entering into Aged Care. WA Aged Care Financial Solutions offers clients and their families a local, privately owned, experienced service that delivers peace of mind. For more information you can visit our website at www.agedcarefswa.com or you can contact us on 1300 827 229.
06.01.2022 In our experience, having your financial documents all together in one place can be a real help in times of crisis. Creating a file (either a traditional paper based file, an electronic version or perhaps both if you feel more comfortable) for bank statements, investment reports, share portfolio details, pension account details, Centrelink information and private health insurance, makes it much easier to assess your financial situation should the need arise. Of course, t...his is good practice for people of any age and making sure a trusted person knows where your records are, is also sensible. For more information about Aged Care, you can visit our website at www.agedcarefswa.com or you can contact us on 1300 827 229.
02.01.2022 We all know we should write a Will to make sure our loved ones are provided for when we die. But what happens if you are left unable to make decisions for yourself due to accident, illness or other circumstances? It is a common misconception that a family member can act on your behalf at this time - as they may lack the legal authority to do so. By having an Enduring Power of Attorney in place you can nominate a family member, trusted friend or an organisation, to step in on ...your behalf should you be incapable of making your own decisions. You can think of doing this as a living Will. There are three types of Powers of Attorney that you can consider: Financial to manage financial and legal matters; Medical Treatment to make medical decisions; and Guardianship to make lifestyle decisions. The best time to create an Enduring Power of Attorney is while you are healthy and still capable of managing your own affairs.
