09.01.2022 Waagura is the Yuin word for Crow which is the name my mothers family and in particular her nephew and nieces affectionately gave her. Evelyn Bashford (née Stewart) is my inspiration. Alongside my Nan Muriel Stewart they are my greatest influencers and the reason I am in the business of Aboriginal advancement today. Mum never took a backward step, she stayed true to her values to the day she passed. I am honoured to walk in the footprints of Her and Nan. I am aware of my res...ponsibility to stay true to the values and learnings they passed on and will ensure Waagura stays true to the values. Leaders don’t need to tell people and community they’re leaders, it’s something the community bestows them. This is something I am particular proud of when hearing of the work of mum and nan. Two amazingly strong powerful Aboriginal women who changed the life’s of Aboriginal people across Australia. I am proud that I can honour her by naming my business after her. It’s a small gratitude and show of respect to a women I love and respect. Evelyn Bashford, Our Waagura and my hero!
