22.01.2022 A Chorus Line, with its stories of the uncertainties of life as a performer and the struggles musical performers face, feels particularly pertinent at this time of great challenges in the world of theatre. Ultimately though this is a tale of hope, and the talent on show in this production gives us confidence in the futures of these performers about to embark on their careers. - Kimberley Shaw

16.01.2022 WAAPA's amazing Performance Making students devise and perform a site-specific work each year around Perth, utilising historic locations. This trailer by Edwyn Sitt offers a glimpse into the amazing work of this group of students at the old Girls School in East Perth from 16 - 19 October, 2019. And The First Time I was Very Much Afraid was a provocative and engaging work that incorporated many aspects of the students training. If this looks like the kinda of thing you want to be a part of, then apply now for the BA Performing Arts! More info: https://www.waapa.ecu.edu.au/courses-and-//performing-arts

15.01.2022 EVEN HANDS 2-4 November, 2020 Enright Studio at Edith Cowan University, Mount Lawley Devised by the Aboriginal Performance students with Phil Thomson Directed by Phil Thomson... Performed by Aboriginal Performance students Designed, built and crewed by Production and Design students Music Director Wayne Freer ++++++++++++++++++++++++ Group devised techniques have created some of the great works of theatre... they are employed by many visionary directors to allow actors a deep chance to shape character and viewpoint. Devised shows give actors a voice and power rarely given in Western theatre, a power to influence content, narrative and meaning. They offer out-of-work actors a chance to make and show; and in making their own work performers learn research and writing skills, get to debate ideas and put their own stories on the floor. So many reasons to train young actors with these techniques they can be career defining. On the first day an actor asked me, Do we have to do Aboriginal stories? No, you don’t have to do anything except what you want to do, what the group desires. Whatever you make will be imprinted by your Indigenous gaze. This freedom was very intoxicating. I hope you enjoy these performance highlights from Even Hands as much as myself, the cast and crew did in making them. Phil Thomson, Director ++++++++++++++++++++++++ For more information about WAAPA's Certiicate IV - Aboriginal Performance course please go to: https://www.waapa.ecu.edu.au//our-c/aboriginal-performance
