25.01.2022 On the occasion of the 65th Anniversary of the ITALO-AUSTRALIAN WELFARE & CULTURAL CENTRE INC (IAWCC) and the 75th Anniversary of the founding of the Italian Republic our WAATI President Laura Bava attended the National Day MESSA DELLA REPUBBLICA at St Mary’s Cathedral in Perth on Sunday the 6th of June. 16.01.2022 Today WAATI teachers Nadia Tati (Trinity College), Eliza Mann Knapman (Trinity College), Laura Bava (St Damien’s PS), Bianca Petale (Willetton SHS), their colleagues and a number of their students were guests of Italian Consul, Mr Nicolo' Costantini,at the giornata della ricerca italiana at the WA Maritime Museum. This conference discussed the blue economy and environmental protection, in particular the collaboration between Australia and Italy. There were many presentations by people from WA and video links from Canberra and Italy. St Damien’s and Willetton SHS presented on what their schools are doing in regard to the environment. It was an informative and interesting conference and these teachers are grateful to have been given the opportunity to participate.

09.01.2022 Today WAATI hosted yet another of its initiatives- Year 12 Oral Practice afternoon held at Perth Modern School. This event was ably coordinated by Paula O’Donnell, our Secretary, & went off without a hitch! 86 students from 13 schools participated. A teacher from each school (giving up the last afternoon of their holidays) attended to assist students. Thanks also to WAATI Committee members who don’t teach high school but came along to assist (Colleen Barclay VP & Marita Rus...so) Students were placed in mixed groups of no more than 6 and teachers rotated 4 times covering all topics in Units 3&4. I certainly was impressed by the commitment of the students, their preparedness and the standards reached. These students will be sitting their ATAR Oral Exams this coming weekend and we wish them all the very best! Grazie di cuore ai Prof!! In bocca al lupo a tutti!! See more

03.01.2022 Ecco la bellissima poesia che la nostra Presidente, Laura Bava ci ha letto al Pranzo della WAATI ieri. Una classe a distanza La conosci la tristezza di un anno finito?... Ha i colori di un ramo da tempo sfiorito. In quest’anno fuggitivo sono qui e mentre scrivo so già che non suonerà la campanella e non ritirerò la mia pagella. Con una fulminea giravolta nulla è più stato quello di una volta. Ci sono stati giorni in cui ci siamo persi per ritrovarci dentro uno schermo un po’ diversi. Con un filo di stelle di speranza la maestra ha ricucito la classe a distanza. Abbiamo ripreso il nostro viaggio con spirito paziente e coraggio. E tra un Mi senti? e un Ti sento, ma non ti vedo! Da noi la maestra ora prende congedo. Ma io che sono uno studente orfano di un anno splendente, tra i banchi della mia scuola ho lasciato ogni parola: la curiosità e la nostalgia, le lezioni in presenza e l’allegria. Vorrei ancora avere i miei amici intorno e non mi basta un solo giorno! Vorrei la mia classe riunita perché a scuola sperimento la vita. Vorrei con il gesso disegnare alla lavagna: il mare, il lago, la montagna. Vorrei il mio posto nella fila ordinata e il suono della campana che annuncia l’entrata. Vorrei rotolarmi con i miei compagni nel prato e osservare il cielo da nuvole increspato. Ora ha inizio la vacanza e in questa nuova distanza cullerò i fremiti dell’attesa, fiducioso nella grande ripresa. Il ricordo maestra del tuo sorriso sarà la luce nel mio viso, troverò la forza nei tuoi sogni e nelle promesse del futuro perchè a settembre a scuola io ci torno di sicuro! di Maria Ruggi See more
