03.01.2022 Do you know about our historical office location in Warwick? Our location, 96 Palmerin Street, dates back to 1875 when it was first opened as the ‘Southern Cross Hotel’ by licensee James Thomas Lethbridge. Mr Lethbridge made improvements to the hotel and changed the name to the ‘Royal Hotel’. In 1883 Mr Lethbridge passed away and the hotel continued to pass through many local businessmen’s hands. In 1962 the hotel was bought by a syndicate of local businessmen. The Royal Hote...l closed for the last time and emerged in 1963 after a large renovation as the ‘Mayfair Hotel Motel’. The Hotel renovations cost in the vicinity of 70,000 pound. As reported in the Warwick Daily News: ‘The new owners set out with one aim in mind, and that was to provide Warwick with an ultra-modern first-class hotel-motel to cater for tastes of both city residents and growing tourist potential of South Queensland.’ On Saturday 26th June 1971, the Warwick Daily News announced the hotel had been sold to Mrs Lily Cohen of Surfers Paradise. After more than 100 years of being a hotel, in 1997 it underwent one further major renovation when the local builder and developer, John Doherty, renovated it into what it is today, prime Warwick office spaces. Wade Real Estate is fortunate to be part of this incredible story when it purchased the prominent corner office space in the Mayfair Centre in 1999. Warwick has an incredible history of historic buildings and well-established family businesses, Wade Real Estate being one of these.
