25.01.2022 How were the Learning Commissioners being COMMUNICATORS? Today our Learning Commissioners shared the terrific work they have undertaken this year with improving student engagement in maths with other Learning Commissioners across Darwin, the Minister for Education Lauren Moss : Member for Casuarina and Education NT’s Chief Executive Officer Karen Weston. A big thanks to their supporters Pivot Professional Learning, Evidence for Learning and The Eventful Learning Co.... We can't wait to see what they plan to do in 2021!



25.01.2022 What event are we acknowledging this week? This week is National NAIDOC week. The theme is ‘Always Was, Always Will Be.’ We recognise that Aboriginal people have occupied and cared for this country for over 65,000 years. As you walk into our school, stop and take a look at the display created by 5/6 Ah Mat.

25.01.2022 What is the science behind making ice cream? 5/6 Colling inquired into the making of ice cream. They experimented with flavour and texture. Some lucky teachers taste tested each one. Thank you to Mrs Chadbourne for leading this fun inquiry.

22.01.2022 What important skill have our early year's students learning? Today was the last day of our swimming program with Royal Life Saving NT. The kids had a great time learning new swimming and survival skills in the water.

22.01.2022 Who wants to be a scientist? Thank you to Dripstone Middle School for inviting our Year 5 students to their Science Fair. It showcased how fun science can be!

19.01.2022 What event finished today? A big thank you to The Jiu-Jitsu Studio Darwin for providing a great afternoon experience for our 3/4 students over the past 4 weeks. Our kids loved it. The afternoon sporting experiences are possible with funding from Sporting Schools.

14.01.2022 How do we use music to promote inclusion? Today we joined other schools across the country in Music Count Us In. The 2020 Song was called ‘You Won’t Bring Us Down’. Our students sang the song not only with voice but also using Auslan. ... The lyrics draw on the themes of young people standing up for what they believe in, inspired by climate change and the recent Australian bushfires.

11.01.2022 How are we developing the leaders of tomorrow? Today our Learning Commissioners shared their ideas to improve mathematics at Wagaman. They presented their research and recommendations to The Eventful Learning Co., Pivot Professional Learning and John Cleary from the DoE NT. Keep an eye out for their exciting initiatives they have planned in the coming term.

10.01.2022 How are we being RESEARCHERS? Our 1/2 classes are inquiring into the properties of different materials. They have been using their senses to explore and create mixtures of solids, mixtures of solids and liquids, and mixtures of liquids. Have a look at 1/2 Vinu being PLAYFUL with their inquiry. They were being chefs, wizards and scientists when observing and carefully collecting information.

10.01.2022 What is Meaningful Maths? Meaningful Maths is an approach to the teaching of mathematics based on the New Zealand number framework. The framework has a strong focus on strategy; the mental processes students use to solve number problems This year at Wagaman, we have begun to adopt this approach; joining other schools in the Casuarina Education Precinct and across Darwin. ... Today a select group of 5/6 students went to a Meaningful Maths Enrichment Day. They participated in a variety of high-level problem solving activities with students from other schools across Darwin.

They have learnt bush survival skills such as making a shelter, a stretcher and learning about camping equipment. ... There was even time to play!

They taught our girls a fun game that promoted the importance of working as a team and keeping your cool when things don't work out.

05.01.2022 How are 3/4 Ramsay being RESEARCHERS? A big thanks to Casuarina Senior College for welcoming our 3/4s to their science labs. It's great collaboration across schools. The children wore lab coats and protective glasses to investigate the properties of materials. ... Some experiments included using thermometers to measure the temperature of hot water, testing the insulating features of different materials and the flammability of fabrics. They were amazed to see the polyester and nylon fabrics melt. Thanks to Mr Ramsay for hosting our students.
