15.01.2022 22ND BIENNALE OF SYDNEY - TRUE NOURISHMENT: Soon after the Covid-19 lockdown occurred in NSW in March this year, I was at home trying to think of ways I could s...upport the community while observing restrictions. I was finding my way to adapt a project I had been planning for months as my contribution to the 22nd Biennale of Sydney, titled NIRIN, for Wayside Chapel and for South Eveleigh During a conversation with my great friend, colleague and leading curator Barbara Flynn, we hatched a plan to create a record of my True Nourishment project, the digital manifestation of which can be found on this link https://bos-prd.s3.amazonaws.com//211c6f4c9badf5519f53cac3. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to several of our key community leaders who agreed to take part, ( in images ), local Elder Aunty Ali Golding (Biripi), Helen Silvia CEO Women’s & Girls’ Emergency Centre WAGEC and Jon Owen, CEO / Pastor @waysidepastor Wayside Chapel Your daily practices of taking care of those most vulnerable in our society truly nourishes me and motivates me in every way. Thank you to @barbaraflynnptyltd @christinebootes , Emma Driver for assistance with the interviews, transcriptions, writing and editing; @ricafeli graphic designer; @mark_pokorny_photo portraits; @garyheeryphotographer back cover portrait. An enormous thank you to Biennale of Sydney Artistic Director @brook_andrew_artist for inviting me to participate in this life-changing experience! Gratitude to Biennale of Sydney @_barb.moore_ CEO who commissioned True Nourishment with assistance from Chair, Kate Mills. Special thanks to the unbelievably hardworking and committed Biennale Team who worked on True Nourishment; including @pdaantosberry @jodiepolutele @charlottegeorgia @emilysmctaggart The Biennale of Sydney finishes this weekend, do try and make the time to see it Carriageworks Art Gallery of New South Wales Artspace Sydney Campbelltown Arts Centre #nirin2020 See more

05.01.2022 Growing up in Malaysia made me believe that women have a specific gendered role within society. There is a sense of disempowerment amongst the women and girls. I never felt like I was good enough. Working in the domestic violence sector has empowered me more than ever. It is such a gratifying and beautiful thing to be able to work alongside like-minded women to challenge the patriarchy and bring about genuine social change to the many disadvantaged women that we have the privileged of meeting and working with. To read the full interview with Annette, head to the blog on our website!
