24.01.2022 Getting board. Here's something to challenge you.

24.01.2022 There is something new and blue in the Cross Street car park off Tarcutta Street! A brand new fast charger was officially launched today that will support local... ownership of electric vehicles and encourage touring 'EV' owners to charge up and check out Wagga Wagga. A strong network of charge points is essential for the uptake of electric vehicles which supports a transition to a low carbon future. The station was co-funded by the NSW Government and The NRMA.

22.01.2022 Wagga Council Strategic Plan I know people are busy so I thought I would do some research on some other Council Strategic Plans that can be used as a benchmark for any people that want to cherry pick what Wagga could be including especially in regards to climate change and environment. Please have your say. ... Included in the comments for quick reference Strategic plans for Wollongong, Draft 112 pages Hornsby, completed 100 pages Melbourne, Climate Change Mitigation Strategy 76 pages Inner West Sydney, Community Strategic Plan 34 pages Blue Mountains , local Strategic Planning Statement 176 pages We have until Sat 12 December to comment on the Strategic Plan. There are public information sessions. The first on 12 November. See website for registering. The last strategic plan had little reference to assisting the community to adjust to climate change. Under environment the 3 guiding principle are: protect and enhance natural areas; increase resilience to natural hazards and land constraints; manage growth sustainably. Don't expect much detail. The little I have read is pretty underwhelming.(Pat)

18.01.2022 The study details environmental benefits as well. It explains how perennial grains like native millet, which sequester carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, could help to mitigate global warming. Native plants provide plant cover for long periods of time and protect soil from water and wind erosion. They have also adapted to local conditions and events like drought, while some have developed water-saving features. Many have root systems that can access deep soil water reserves ...and shallow roots that take advantage of periodic rainfall events. Growing and using native plant species in an agricultural or horticultural setting is a valuable way of using the environment in a productive and balanced way, the report reads.

04.01.2022 The Honourable Catherine Cusack crossed the floor on Thurs 19 Nov to vote against the Local Land Services Amendment bill and to hopefully save koalas. Thankfully she has received many letters of support from all over NSW for her action. Unfortunately it has cost her the Parliamentary Secretary role which Gladys Berejiklian quickly removed her from. To write letters of support to Catherine Cusack send via email to: [email protected]. If you are displeased with Gladys's action electronic contact is: nsw.gov.au/premier-of-nsw/contact-premier A form is on the page to fill out.

03.01.2022 Shared by Michael Shawn Fletcher: "Indigenous Plant Use" by Barkandji woman Zena Cumpston from the School of Ecosystem and Forest Sciences. It is for families, ...schools, community groups. Download it and get out in your garden today! Such a powerful statement about the depth of knowledge in the Kulin Nations. Indigenous plant use In 2019, the University of Melbourne was transformed by the breathtaking influx of 40,000 Kulin Nation plants as part of the Indigenous-led event, The Living Pavilion. These plants were accompanied by signs, carefully researched and curated by Barkandji woman Zena Cumpston, which articulated the plants from an Aboriginal perspective and explored their cultural, nutritional, technological and medicinal use. The plant research was so popular that many participants contacted Zena wanting to access the information. The new 'Indigenous plant use' booklet was created so people could continue learning. In the booklet, you'll find information on more than 50 indigenous plant species displayed on labels that you can print and use in your own garden. https://nespurban.edu.au//2020/08/Indigenous-plant-use.pdf
