24.01.2022 Source: Bureau of Meteorology or DAMAGING, LOCALLY DESTRUCTIVE WINDS, LARGE HAILSTONES and HEAVY RAINFALL For people in parts of Central West Slopes and Plains, Riverina, Lower Western and Upper Western Forecast Districts.... Issued at 1:03 pm Monday, 21 September 2020. Weather Situation: A cold front is sweeping across inland NSW bringing strong and fast moving storms. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging, locally destructive winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Condobolin, Nyngan, Wagga Wagga, West Wyalong, Griffith, Narrandera, Cobar, Bourke, Wanaaring, Brewarrina, Enngonia and Fords Bridge. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences. * Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill. * Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water. * If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. * Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. * After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides. * Unplug computers and appliances. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well. * Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.

20.01.2022 The Streets of ANZAC A virus came along and shut the world down And people went crazy and emptied the town... Stay at home and survive the best that you can Be a good citizen and respect fellow man For this lonely old digger, it’s always been the way As he prepares to remember on ANZAC Day Social Distancing in place and nothing new to him And quietly chuckles at the fancy dressed ladies, putting out the bins He polishes his medals as he sits home alone Cup of tea and the crossword and sits by the phone For the calls that never come from mates long since passed The platoon is all gone, and he is proudly the last They told him Services and Marches are cancelled this year No poppies, no badges, no two up or beer Wondering will No one honour or even remember? Till Remembrance Day, the 11th November He hears a strange noise and gets to his feet And with a tear in his eye as he looks up the street The driveways of people with poppies and candles Honouring the fallen is more then he can handle They did all remember and they do really care They wave and salute while he just stops and stares Some children have handmade signs on his fence and the lawn We honour your service at the rise of the Dawn The ANZAC Spirit lives on in the youth of today With respect and honour as this is our way The virus won’t win, the futures not set As we whisper the words, Lest We forget...

06.01.2022 CHANGES IN NSW SES PROCEDURES: COVID-19 Given the expected length of the COVID-19 emergency the NSW SES has enhanced our call taking and response procedures so our volunteers can stay safe whilst helping communities during storms and floods. In taking your call for emergency assistance we will ask if anyone at the property has flu-like symptoms or has been diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus. ... NSW SES will still respond to your request if you say yes to any or both of these questions. They will just use this information to use risk mitigation strategies so they can stay safe. While our NSW SES Response Team is traveling to your property they may contact you via mobile phone seeking pictures or videos of the damage to your home or business. NSW SES volunteers will maintain appropriate physical distancing whilst at your property and may need to communicate with you via mobile phone in some circumstances. We may also provide self- help advice so you can do temporary repairs to your own home or business. We will only do this if appropriate and safe to do so, given the circumstances and nature of the damage and actions required to make your property safe. We appreciate your support whilst we implement these important measures so we can continue to provide emergency services to the community while protecting the safety of our volunteers. For emergency assistance in storms and floods call NSW SES on 132 500. #NSWSES Saving Lives and protecting Communities. It’s what we do.
