13.01.2022 Another subtle stress sign in dogs can be panting! Fred & Chase are panting in this pic because it was taken in summer after they had been running around. If your dog is not hot or thirsty then suddenly starts panting, you may want to investigate what’s happening in the environment to cause it to stress. My foster dog will start stress panting if she’s inside the house but needs to go to the toilet. 10.01.2022 Dog body language. Did you know lip licking can be a sign of stress?! When I first started studying dog behaviour properly, my eyes were opened wide when I was taught about all the subtle signs that dogs display that generally go unnoticed. When you start to recognise them- you can’t unsee it & it tells you SO much about how your dog is feeling, especially for those nervous ones. ... It’s all got to be in context though- Buddha the Sharpei in the photo is lip licking because I’ve just given him a yummy treat. However, if you see your dog licking his lips when you’ve gone in for a cuddle, taken him somewhere new or they’ve met someone new- it’s a heads up that they’re feeling a little unsure or uncomfortable. THIS is when you should start training to boost that confidence rather than wait until the behaviour escalates to growling or lip curling etc. I’m going to do a whole series on these behaviours so keep an eye out if you want to learn more on what your dog is telling you. Setting up the correct social structure also providing them with lots of mental & physical outlets. The same goes for your dogs, they also need outlets & appropriate company, otherwise they may practice problem behaviours.

02.01.2022 Yawning is another common stress signal. If you notice your dog suddenly yawn when something happens...pay attention & they might be trying to tell you something.
