23.01.2022 How’s your #mentalfitness? October is Mental Health Month and today I zoomed in with Rotary Club of Wahroonga and guest speaker Bronnie Taylor MLC the Ministe...r for Mental Health, Regional Youth and Women. Open dialogue about mental health, helps improve our local communities. By removing the stigma, it makes it easier for those who are suffering to seek help, learn to cope and get on the road to recovery. Doing small everyday things like getting enough sleep, or taking time to regularly chat with a friend, can help build resilience so we can cope with life’s ups and downs. If you or someone you know needs support, go to your local GP or visit my website alisterhenskens.com.au and it’s useful links section for a comprehensive range of mental health services and contact details.

22.01.2022 The new Rotary year begins 1st July 2020 and we look forward to working with #communities and creating more #opportunities for those in need and to connect with you through friendship, service and more. Rotary International Rotary District 9685

19.01.2022 Worried about over development in Ku-ring-gai? On Tuesday this week, the NSW Minister for Planning Rob Stokes responded to my letter to Premier Berejiklian seek...ing clarification of Councils obligations to meet Greater Sydney Commission housing targets, following our decision to defer consideration of the draft Housing Strategy for two months. Minister Stokes has confirmed that there is no legal requirement placed upon Council and that ultimately it is up to Council to determine its dwelling numbers in line with community expectations. You can read the Ministers letter and the Councils media release at www.kmc.nsw.gov.au The Greater Sydney Commission was established by a State Act of Parliament in 2015 to plan for population growth and new housing across metropolitan Sydney. In March this year the Greater Sydney Commission told Ku-ring-gai to prepare a housing plan to accommodate 3,600 new dwellings in 6-10 years, equating to 10,000 more residents. As Mayor, I welcome Minister Stokes letter and the clarity it has provided to Council. The Council can now consider if the existing capacity within our current development controls meets community expectations. The Council will meet on Tuesday 23 September from 7pm and decide on a way forward. You can watch the meeting at http://www.kmc.nsw.gov.au//Mee/Council_Meeting_live_stream

02.01.2022 A BIG THANK YOU! Dear Rotarians and Community I have to say I’m overwhelmed with the success of our recent Christmas Stall on Saturday 12th Dec. With a final total of $6,000, this will go towards a bursary for St Lucy’s to help a family send their child to this very special school. We are fortunate enough to live in a community that cares and a team of volunteers that continually strive to make a difference in the world.... The Men's Shed in Berowa, The Bush school in Wahroonga and Tiggy - a local company producing handmade leather goods all played a part in making it a success. Of course, we couldn’t forget the team of enthusiastic Rotarians and their partners who continue to support and give to the community. I’m so grateful to part of the club and community of Wahroonga! Warm thanks Christine Biddle Member of Rotary Club of Wahroonga See more
