24.01.2022 An important update as been emailed to all clubs please read and make sure this information goes to the key COVID Safety people within your Club! COVID Update... The NSW Office of Sport and NSW Health has requested that we communicate an update to all our Clubs. With the recent increase in positive COVID-19 cases in school aged young people in particular, the next 6 weeks have been deemed critical for cases within our state. NSW Health are currently reviewing restrictions for community sport and it is expected that there may be an increases in those restrictions in coming weeks. The key points we have been requested to remind our club members include: Actively Reducing Risk Wherever possible, reduce participants, officials and parents etc attending your club Avoid excess people gathering whilst sport is taking place Do parents need to hang out the club during training or game play, unless specifically accompanying their own child? Is it possible to make other arrangements to care for siblings? Maintain 1.5m social distancing at all times where possible use visual cues (cones, tape, rope markings etc) to practically show people what 1.5m spacing looks like Increase warnings for those who are sick, showing symptoms etc to remain away from your club. Follow the directions of all COVID marshals and club officials in regard to COVID safety! COVID Safety Plans NSW Health COVID Safety Marshals will be around our state in increased numbers and will be checking on sporting clubs around NSW from this weekend to assess compliance with COVID protocols. Every club with more than 20 participants (players, officials, spectators, parents etc) is required to have a COVID Safety Plan Copies of these, and any additional venue/club specific plans that your Club is implementing should all be readily available for reference and checking at your Club. All of these must be produced on request by COVID Safety Marshals, the Police or any other Authorities who visit your venues. Contact tracing should be continued to be recorded as much as possible, with ideally digital records (the use of QR Codes is recommended, and don’t forget the wealth of contact information stored with Xplorer) and retained for a minimum of 28 days. Infection rates in children is of a high concern to NSW Health in particular over the next six weeks. We must pay attention to ensuring that our junior competitors/ participants are maintaining social distancing, cleaning/ hygiene requirements and remember GET IN play GET OUT still applies so our Training and Competitions can continue on foot Other Key Reminders Anyone who is unwell should stay home Your Club activities can continue as long as the current Public Health Orders are complied with Practice good hand hygiene before, during and after Rugby Avoid physical contact where possible Do not share drinks, towels, clothing etc Encourage players to arrive dressed, ready to go Encourage the use of the COVIDSafe app for everyone whilst at your club A noted above we want to limit spectators to a minimum. Further if there is any confusion on social distancing, following a one person per 4 square metres rule is a very effective way of ensuring sufficient physical distancing between people. The key thing here is to remain vigilant. Community Sport has done very well to not be the cause so far of any outbreaks, we need to keep up this good work, so our participants can continue to enjoy Rugby for the remainder of the season.

22.01.2022 Merry Christmas to all our members, players and their families, have an enjoyable and safe Christmas and New Year. We look forward to welcoming you back for a big season in 2021

21.01.2022 To all the Tiger dads out there, may your cubs be kind to you today and treat you like the king of the jungle! #TigerDad #TigersRugby #FathersDay

21.01.2022 You are no doubt aware that the NSW Government is making additional efforts to try and contain the likelihood of community transmission of COVID-19. SJRU and a...ll affiliates of NSWRU support this wholeheartedly and in return we also appreciate the awareness from the government of the benefits of community sport. As the attached update from NSW Rugby and other community sports notes, they are pleased to have been able to work together with NSW Health and NSW Office of Sport to develop updated plans that help stop the spread of COVID-19 in NSW but also allow community sport to continue. After considering the latest requirements and recommendations, SJRU in association with NSWRU has determined that the Friday XVs, Sunday XVs, Frosty 7s, Sydney North Girls and all Minis competitions can proceed. However there will be a series of changes implemented to all of these competitions to help ensure everyone’s safety. We will communicate more details about them but the key changes will include: We have reviewed the grades in the Sunday XVs competition to significantly reduce cross-Sydney travel wherever practical, while trying to balance the safety and enjoyment of players. Re-grading has been completed and the revised draw will be issued on Thursday 20th. Frosty 7s will be split across two venues. In all the competitions noted above host clubs will be required to implement upgraded COVID protocols. These will include mandatory QR coding for attendance registers at all venues and a strong recommendation that all spectators wear masks. SJRU will issue an updated COVID Safety Plan template to all clubs on Thursday 20th. SJRU will review each competition’s compliance with safety requirements each week. Other rugby events such as gala days and invitational tournaments will not be able to proceed. We will communicate directly with organisers of these proposed events. All of these changes are necessary to enable our kids to keep playing rugby. We appreciate everyone’s support for them for the remainder of this season. On behalf of all of SJRU I would also like to acknowledge the huge amount of work done behind the scenes by our operational team of John, Andrew and Tina. We thank them and all the volunteers who are still working hard to help our kids enjoy playing rugby.

19.01.2022 We held the SJRU Annual General Meeting last night. It was a great way to wrap up a huge year and say thanks to everyone who has been involved in junior club r...ugby - so many people to thank but we are immensely grateful to everyone for supporting 10,000 kids playing rugby this year. We also welcomed some new members - a new Club in Manly Savers and two very special new Life Members, Kerry Brady and Ben Gregory, who we honoured for their long and distinguished contribution. Thanks so much for all you've done! That's a wrap for 2020 but we are already well advanced with plans for 2021. Our Sizzling 7s for Girls and Boys (new comp!) starts in February. Please get in touch with your club and let them know if you'd like to play, and of course we have all our other competitions to follow in 2021. Thanks again to all our supporters. All of us at SJRU wish you a wonderful, peaceful and relaxing break and we look forward to seeing you on the sidelines next year!

17.01.2022 Congratulations to all our players selected for the Gordon Junior Rugby Club Inc state championships. Another 22 players selected, once again, WOW! An amazing result showcasing the talent of our players and dedication of their coaches. U10s - 11 players U11s - 11 players... #TigersRugby #TigersInTheNews #GrowingTheGame

17.01.2022 As everyone is now no doubt aware, there have been new COVID recommendations for Community Sport released by NSW Health and the Office of Sport, as well as publ...icised suspensions of a number of school sport competitions. Clearly this has great import for all Community Sport, not just Rugby. We (NSW Rugby and SJRU) are working through the new recommendations with Health and Office of Sport and what it means for SJRU Competitions (Friday XVs, Sunday XVs and Frosty 7s) going forward. Included in our discussions with the government are any potential changes we may need to make to competitions, and also additional COVID safety measures we may need to put in place to continue to play. The completed ongoing draw for the Sunday XVs comp will not be distributed, until we have clarified any changes which may be necessary to that draw in response to the new government recommendations. We urge everyone to remain compliant with public health orders in regard to COVID, to continue to train, following your COVID safety protocols and plans, and I will come back to you no later than tomorrow afternoon with an update on where to from here.

17.01.2022 Merry Christmas to our Clubs, Zones, Districts and Schools, NSW Juniors held their 2020 AGM on Tuesday night and amongst other discussions elected the NSWJRU Co...mmittee for 2021 (below). One of the key items on the agenda was to officially welcome NSW Schools onto the Board of NSW Juniors as a full affiliate, after NSW Schools voted to accept the invitation we unanimously voted to extend at the 2020 AGM. We really look forward to working closely with NSW Schools and our other club based affiliates to help positively grow the junior game across our state. The AGM voted to accept the constitutional changes required to include NSW Schools, as well as to reflect the changes in NSW Country Rugby’s governance and to include the role of VP State Championships on the executive. We welcome some new members to the committee and I am sure that they will add valuable contributions to our game. I’d also like to specifically thank some of our valued servants of the game that are stepping down from roles within NSW Juniors. Luke McCormack, Stuart Burke, John Papahatzis and Kym Knight have all served on the 2020 committee or as representative of affiliates to the committee, and each one of you has had a major contribution to NSW Juniors over multiple years. Without your efforts was certainly could not have improved our pathways and I’d personally like to than each and every one of you. It would also be remiss of me not to mention our wonderful sponsors COVID hit some of them harder than others but their support didn’t waiver and we in turn would like to support them in kind. Genesis Proprietary Trading Pty Ltd, Estilo Travel, Rugby 1st, The Rugby Club Foundation and the NSW Positive Rugby Foundation have been fantastic supporters of junior rugby and we could not run all of our showpiece Representative Tournaments and programs without them. A few of the key folk from these sponsors have also stepped down over the year and I’d like to thank them as well Nick Scarf (Genesis) & Adrian Skeggs (Rugby 1st), you are both champions. I’d also like to thank Greg Mumm (NSW Positive Rugby Foundation) for his efforts this year in a tough environment, we have appreciated all your help mate. Lastly if all Zones and Districts could please send me their updated contact details for the following (name, email and mobile phone) so we can update our contact lists for 2021; Zone/District President Zone/District Secretary Zone/District Rep Coordinator 2021 NSW Junior Rugby Union Committee President Ben Gregory VP Commercial Tony Fisher VP Representative Sally Tremlett VP State Championships Gary Paton VP SJRU Anthony Hunt VP CRU Mick Melino VP NSWSRU Chuck Ardron SJRU Delegate Paul Rathborne CRU Delegate Renee Park NSWSRU Delegate Craig Howe Operations Secretary Kerry Brady Social Media Liaison TBC Operations Liaison Ben Kooyman 7’s Sub-Committee Chair Michael Doyle SJRU Delegate TBC CRU Delegate TBC NSWSRU Delegate Kieran Smith Girl’s Sub-Committee Chair Andrew Hill SJRU Delegate June Manu CRU Delegate Michelle Edwards NSWSRU Delegate Alex Butt State Champs Sub-Committee SJRU Delegate Andrew Hutton CRU Delegate Renee Park Independent George Roper State Champs State Champs venues for 2021 have been confirmed as the same as we planned for 2020. 07.01.2022 Lachie Carson - Update Back in 2015 Lachie was a player in the U11 age group, and a student at the Wahroonga Bush School, the U11 age group that year were preparing to go to Japan on the Sanda tour. On the 24th June that year, tragedy struck when Lachie suffered a catastrophic ruptured aneurysm in his brain whilst in the School playground. Lachie was rushed to hospital where his parents Sally and Angus were told to say goodbye! Well those Doctors had no idea who they were de...aling with?! Lachie is a fighter and fight he did! Over the past 5 years Lachie has proved the doctors wrong! They said he wouldn’t walk, walk he did, they said he wouldn’t talk and yes he talks! He may not be exactly the same Lachie but he is still the strong and determined Lachie we remember from the rugby field! Lachie and his family were recently invited to Rugby AU to meet one of Lachie’s heroes, Michael Hooper, below are some pics Lachie’s Mum Sal has shared. Many of you will know the Carson family, and many will remember when this tragedy struck the Tigers community. Lachie, we are proud of you and how far you have come, keep smashing those goals!
