20.01.2022 INTERSCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY Held recently at the Waikerie Oval and Riverfront, Riverland Interschool Cross Country saw over 400 Primary and High School students compete. 20.01.2022 A huge thanks to Brendan Sidhu and Century Orchards for donating six new varieties of almond trees for our horticulture plot. Can’t wait to harvest our first crop (but a bit of a wait till that happens!!).

20.01.2022 Waikerie High School had more than 70 students participate and assist in the running of the 5-a-side soccer carnival, held at the Waikerie Rec Centre Ovals on Thursday. Boys and Girls teams participated in Year 8 boys and girls, and Year 9/10 boys and girls competitions, and were coached by a number of senior students. All students represented the school brilliantly. We are so proud of the school values that they showed whilst participating, but also when organising themselve...s and their teams, and assisting in setting up and packing up. Mitch Werner and Zak Ziegler were presented with a special award for the volunteering work that they did on the day, whilst Owen Kroehn won the ‘good sport’ award for Waikerie High School, for showing sportsmanship over and above what was required. All teams were competitive and experienced some success, but two teams managed to make the top two in their grade. Year 8 Boys Waikerie Green: Flynn Andrew, Mal Lloyd, Kieran Hahn, Ryan Schutz, Sam Trandafil and Mitch Hahn (coach) managed to win their grade undefeated, scoring 15 goals and conceding only 3! Year 9/10 Girls Waikerie Black: Aaliyah Loffler, Scarlett West, Haylee Gore, Taylah Gore, Jaskan Singh and Bella Neville topped their pool, but ended up losing narrowly to a strong Renmark team in the Grand Final. Well done to all involved! For full match results and ladders, please visit: https://scheduler.leaguelobster.com/762340

17.01.2022 Top ATAR’s 2020 - Bonnie Dolphin & Cade Ridley. Congratulations.

17.01.2022 On Friday the 13th, the Year 11 Biology class went to Monarto Zoo for the day. As part of their Ecosystems topic, the students were involved in observing the conservation programs that the zoo has to offer. They watched the feeding of the Tasmanian Devils and were taken to the Chimp enclosure to watch the interactions of the Chimps. After lunch, we were fortunate enough to have an ex Waikerie High School student, Steph Zerner, take us on the safari tour. We were able to see m...any new born baby animals, including a very curious baby lion cub. We were fortunate enough to have a good view of the lion enclosure as we were stuck in there for half an hour as a bus had broken the gates leading in and out of the enclosure. Monarto was a great opportunity to show the students the positive impacts that Zoos can have on ecosystems and bringing animals out of the critically endangered zone. A huge thankyou to Mr Higgins for driving the bus and Steph for being a wonderful host. See more

11.01.2022 The Year 9 Science classes visited Hart’s Lagoon to see if they could identify the different organisms that inhabit the area just by their scats and other evidence that they leave behind. They then examined the scats to see what these organisms had been eating.

10.01.2022 Year 9 Poultry Thought we might do some eggcellent eggsperiments. We investigated the strength of egg shells by walking over them, trying the squeeze them (one student ended up with egg on their face!!) and then determining the maximum weight they could withstand. Surprisingly three eggs can support up to 14 pavers or nearly 17kg before collapsing.

08.01.2022 Operation Flinders students and staff have arrived back after hiking 113KM for 8 days over rough terrain and sleeping in the dirt! Well done girls. You made it! You should all be very proud of yourselves. Such a great a achievement. Rest up

They both did an excellent job as ambassadors of former Waikerie Primary School and current Waikerie High School students in their presentation.

04.01.2022 STEM CHALLENGE This year’s House STEM challenge competition was centred around surviving a bushfire. Some of the activities students participated in where: a supply drop using drones, designing a bushfire safe school, making field food and bush fire awareness tee-shirts. 04.01.2022 Year 9 Agriculture This term has focused on poultry. Students have loved handling them, except for the little deposits on their desks and work plus the smell of the classroom (not always the chooks to blame either!!). We have continued to harvest our vegetables, students have enjoyed being able to share these with their families. They have also loved eating some straight from the plot -such a wonderful trait to know exists.... We have also been making PVC waterers and feeders for the chooks. Some students have also perfected their balancing skills!!

03.01.2022 Congratulations to the Year 9 and 10 students who participated and WON the Riverland Science and Engineering Challenge 2021 on Friday 18th June, in Loxton.

02.01.2022 Today Mrs Griffiths’ Year 9 HASS class took a stroll around Hart Lagoon with Riverland West Landcare’s Karen Bishop as a part of our Geography Biomes topic. Karen gave us some great information about the history of the lagoon and the various methods of rehabilitation, management and improvement that have occurred over the last 30-odd years. We are very lucky to have such a valuable wetland literally in our backyards!
