24.01.2022 Some fun with Ms Woody coming up for our skipping enthusiasts!

23.01.2022 It’s always a pleasure to visit our Kindergarten and see the amazing learning environments our educators take the care to create. They certainly provide inspiration for dynamic and creative learning. Thank you Kinder Team.

23.01.2022 Year 3/4TC had the opportunity to work with both their teachers David and Amelia yesterday. They spent the afternoon in McAulay's completing a great letter scavenger hunt, with the word that the letters needed arranging into was 'appreciation'. We thought that was a good word after our work this week on kindness and gratitude.

22.01.2022 A huge thankyou to the Hobart College House Band who played a concert for Grade 3-6 students before lunchtime today. The music was excellent and covered a wide range of styles such as funk, R n B and swing. There were certainly many toes tapping in the audience!

21.01.2022 Congratulation Tommy on sharing your knowledge with the wider community on the importance of knowing the warning signs of a STROKE. We are very proud of you. To see Tommy's interview which appeared on Channel 7 news on Sunday night. Skip to approx 2.40 mins in! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SysMDI6mDA&feature=youtu.be

18.01.2022 Salvation Army Giving Tree We will be running our annual Giving Tree as usual this year, collecting donated gifts and foods for the Salvation Army. Unwrapped gifts can be placed under the Christmas Tree which will be in the Library from 1st December. Non-perishable, in-date food items can be left in the red ‘Bags of Hope’ in each classroom. The Salvation Army will be coming to school at 9:30am on 9th December to collect the donations.

18.01.2022 3/4 Titherley / Clifford have been making the most of the beautiful spring weather to take their measurement learning outside. They have been looking at area, and metre squared in particular. The students in pairs created a square metre with white paper. Next students planned six things outside to estimate and measure, and we then tracked strategies that really helped us.

17.01.2022 Congratulations Yeaby and Oliver! It is so great to see our students’ learning transfer outside of the classroom. Year 3 were learning about the impacts of different materials on the environment. Yeaby and Oliver decided to share their new knowledge about the effects of plastic with our wider school community. See if you can spot their messages around our school.

17.01.2022 Wow. Congratulations to three of our Future Problem Solving teams: they've been invited to the National Finals! Of course this year we won't be travelling interstate, so the teams will take part at Waimea early in Term 4, followed by a virtual award ceremony. We're so proud of you all!

14.01.2022 Last Wednesday our Kinder to Year 2 classes participated in a box construction day! Students had a fantastic time demonstrating the 5 Waimea Capabilities as they constructed all sorts of cardboard creations. Students were able to explain and reflect on their learning as thinkers, researchers, self-managers, collaborators and communicators. Students created marble runs, models, costumes, animals, cubbies, mansions and robots. It was great to see students continuing to improve ...and add to their box constructions in the days after the event. We have a 'Box Creation Museum' outside the Prep classrooms in Beach Block if you’re in interested taking a look at some of the many amazing constructions that students have made. A huge thank you to all the families that collected and brought in boxes for the day, to classroom teachers and teacher assistants for supporting and documenting student learning and to Mark Gloster for helping with the clean up afterwards! 14.01.2022 The SRC are holding a Free Dress Day to raise money for The Smith Family charity. The SRC representatives wanted to support others in our community. We look forward to seeing some blue, white or red on Wednesday 23rd of September!

14.01.2022 5/6 Blizzard was a hive of excited activity last Thursday morning as we read our first letters from our Pen Pals! Our Pen Pals live in a rural area of Queensland and seem to love NRL. We loved reading about their lives and how they are different and similar to ours. We are now working on our replies. We were lucky to have my dad, Tim, come to visit our classroom. Tim worked individually with three students to turn their poetry into songs. He also played a song for us. Yesterday he worked with the whole class to write a song together!

12.01.2022 Spring is on the way! We're loving the flowers blooming, the leaves unfurling and the veggies growing at Waimea.

12.01.2022 Can you help? We are looking for 4 to 5 of these for our Fairy Garden to create some new play spaces for our students. Please email [email protected] Thank you!!

11.01.2022 The library at lunch time is a very busy place! People are reading, playing chess and checkers, constructing with lego, drawing and generally enjoying the wonderful space. Our Library is open to students every day at lunchtime from 1pm - 1:30pm.

11.01.2022 Celebrating and acknowledging our wonderful fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, carers and special people in our Waimea community.

10.01.2022 A small group of fortunate 5/6 students today worked with renowned air brush artist Robi Glimar learning the basics of this modern artform. This is the beginning of a longer process which will have the students work with Robi to create a mural at the Sandy Bay Yacht Club, in collaboration with students from other local schools. As they say, 'Watch this space' as the mural will develop!

08.01.2022 See them fly! Our annual 'No Miss A Loop' skipping endurance competition has begun. Skippers have to continuously take it in turns to jump into and out of a turning long rope, one loop at a time. The heats involved continuously skipping for over half of lunchtime. We now have 20 finalists who will battle it out next Wednesday to see who can miss no loops at all. Bring it on!

07.01.2022 What a stunning morning for some Daily Fitness! Lap running on the oval, relays, beep tests and aerobics; a great way for our students to give their brains and bodies a boost at the start the day!

06.01.2022 Some of our Year 5 and 6 students have been lucky to take part in a pilot program, run by Advanced Skills Teacher (AST) Greg Mitchell, using lunchtime structured boxing sessions to increase self-esteem, resilience and positive behavioural choices. The students work with Mr Mitchell to learn correct boxing techniques and improve their physical fitness through boxing training though not sparring (fighting). We hope that this program will prove successful for our students’ physical, mental and emotional health, and that we can continue with lunchtime boxing next year. Thank you to Mr Mitchell for sharing his expertise, energy and skills in this area with our students!

06.01.2022 Congratulations Emma and Bethany, our early childhood teachers who co-authored this series.

06.01.2022 The Growing Up Program, by Family Planning Tasmania, plays an important role in creating safer, healthier and happier environments for Tasmanian children. The Growing Up Program combines best practice in Protective Behaviours Education and Relationships and Sexuality Education to provide a sequential, age-appropriate program for students from Kinder to Year 6. The Growing Up Program develops students’ understanding of physical development; self-esteem and self-concept; communication skills; resilience and persistence; social and life skills. The Growing Up Program will be visiting our school from Monday the 21st to Thursday 24th September.

02.01.2022 Year 5 and 6 students have the opportunity to be selected and participate in our band program with Justin Breen. Waimea Heighs is a brass and precussion school in the Combined Primary School Band Program. It's lovely to see and hear the progress over the year!

01.01.2022 A lovely way to end Week 9 at Waimea Heights with a Early Childhood (Prep to Year 2) Assembly. Thank you to Year 1WW and 2D for sharing their learning with us. We also appreciate our families understanding of our limited seating due to the 1.5m distancing requirements. Thank you for your support.

01.01.2022 Today was an exciting day for our Year 5s, as they took on the role of Daily Fitness Leaders for the first time. This transition is part of our upper primary leadership program at Waimea, and our Daily Fitness Leaders are supported with training, continuing feedback and collaboration with the 5/6 teachers throughout each year to develop leadership skills in our older students. We thank our Year 6s who have now completed their year as Daily Fitness Leaders. Well done everyone!
