10.01.2022 The State Government's $18.34 million manufacturing package will support upcoming defence projects in WA and make the state an even better option for future defence work. The package should put WA in the best position to secure full-cycle docking of Collins Class submarines. Now, we need Scott Morrison and the Federal Government to make the decision to bring full-cycle docking to WA. The manufacturing package provides a few reasons why:... $8.5 million for an additional $20,000 incentive, on top of existing financial subsidies, for shipbuilding employers to take on apprentices in key trades $2.85 million to create an additional 335 apprenticeships in nominated defence trades $3.3 million in training and development of new TAFE short courses to create a ‘defence ready’ workforce $800,000 in scholarships to encourage women and Defence veterans to take up a career in the defence manufacturing industry Equipment upgrades to facilities at South Metropolitan TAFE to assist with training in defence-related industries Establishment of a dedicated defence industry team at Rockingham Jobs and Skills Centre to undertake careers promotion across all schools and provide advice to job-seekers and potential workers Development of a maritime defence industries toolkit to provide practical advice for job-seekers

07.01.2022 WA energy unions have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Synergy and the State Government to support workers at the Collie Muja Power Station, through a just transition. Given the changes that are occurring in our energy mix, there will be fewer jobs in the coal industry in the years ahead. A just transition is about ensuring the workers and the community of Collie don’t get left behind. Let’s build upon the skills we have in Collie and attract new local industries to create the jobs of the future.
06.01.2022 The oil and gas sector is throwing its weight behind hydrogen as an energy source to reduce Australia's carbon emissions. Hydrogen can be created out of renewable energy or from natural gas, so it's an opportunity for the sector to diversify and create jobs. "These are areas where Australia’s existing comparative advantage and experience in natural gas development and exports provide significant opportunities for the further development of these technologies. "The industry will play a key role as Australia moves towards a cleaner-energy future." - Andrew McConville, Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association chief executive
05.01.2022 It's time to bring full cycle docking to WA! Western Australia has the skills, capacity and pipeline of workers to manage full-cycle docking of Collins Class submarines. Bringing this project to WA will take pressure off South Australia's overloaded naval construction workforce and allow submariners to spend more time at home, which is in the national interest. It will also inject $8.4 billion into the Western Australian economy and create more than 3000 local jobs.... It's a win-win for the state and the nation. All that needs to happen now is for the Federal Government to make the final decision. https://thewest.com.au//state-government-to-renew-nation-c

03.01.2022 Nearly $50 billion of new government infrastructure development has been planned to aid Australia's COVID-19 recovery plan, but there are fears that labour shortages could delay the projects According to Deloitte, the combination of labour shortages and heavy losses from major contractors could reduce the number of major firms willing to bid for what can be low-margin government work.
