21.01.2022 Congratulations to our Thursday Island team on 12 months of serving the Torres Strait community! It was on this day 8 October 2019 that we opened our doors to consumers and the team hasn't looked back! The service has been very well received and is a busy hub of activity each and every day! We would also like to congratulate Shanna Nai, Josephine Sabatino and Jack Kepa who have completed their Certificate IV in Mental Health which now sees them as qualified Mental Health Workers! He has been with Wakai Waian Healing since 2017 - after finishing his Cert IV and PDSMS program he is now undergoing a Bachelor of Psychology through CQU. Julyess was born in Rockhampton, Central Queensland and is a descendent of the Kuinmarrburra clan of the Dharumbal Nation traditional owners of the Rockhampton region and also the Yiman people of Taroom.... 08.01.2022 On 30 October 2020 we celebrated the achievements of the PDSMS (Professional Development, Supervision, Mentoring and Selfcare) Trainees - (now graduates!) We acknowledge the hard work of those that undertook and finished the course, together with their Certificate IV in Mental Health which now sees them as qualified Mental Health Workers. A great day was had by all, and we sincerely thank those staff and CEO's that came along and supported our program - especially those that travelled from Palm Island, Sunshine Coast, Gladstone, Thursday Island and Cairns. Many thanks also to the Central Queensland, Wide Bay, Sunshine Coast PHN for their continued support. Thank you to Rockhampton Leagues Club for the smooth running of the day. Thank you also to Dean St Bakery for the delicious cake!

04.01.2022 This week will see the trainees complete the final competency area of the WWH Professional Development, Supervision, Mentoring and Selfcare program. It will also see them progress with their Certificate IV in Mental Health. Training this week has trainees attending in person from Rockhampton, Palm Island and Nambour. Thursday Island trainees attended via videoconference. The PDSMS program is in it's closing stages with the current cohort, by the end of October 2020 they w...ill have completed their Certificate IV in Mental Health and completed a number of hours of Professional Development, Professional Supervision and selfcare activities while undertaking and recording hours of supervised professional practice.
