22.01.2022 Nice to see WALCHA listed here

21.01.2022 Thanks very much to all who volunteered to have a nasal swab looking for asymptomatic carriage of Covid-19 in our community. Over the last two weeks, we performed a little under 200 tests and happily they were all negative. This helps to confirm we are relatively safe at present when moving about in our public areas. Nonetheless, social distancing should continue. Hopefully our city cousins won't upset the balance when they start heading our way. We will now stop testing peo...ple without symptoms. A note to say Deng is still accepting new patients, as that question is still being asked. See more

18.01.2022 Government funded Influenza vaccinations have arrived and will start next week. Please book in now. The following groups are eligible for these free vaccines: 1) All aged 65 years or more 2) All aboriginal and Torres Straight Island people aged 6 months and over 3) All those over 5 years of age with chronic disease ... 4) Anyone with immune deficiency 5) All pregnant women 6) All children aged 6 months to less than 5 years For all those that don’t fit into the above categories wishing to have flu vaccination, we are expecting supplies to arrive around mid April. So we hope to roll out vaccinations for you in the second half of April. You are welcome to book in now for those clinics. Given the COVID 19 circumstances, to maintain social distancing, we will be conducting the clinics at John Oxley oval. Vaccination will be given whilst you remain in your car. Please wear appropriate clothing to provide easy access to the arm. After vaccination, I recommend you remain in your car without driving off for five or so minutes, so we are nearby in the highly unlikely event you have a reaction. We are giving the flu needles early this year for obvious reasons. The downside of this is there will be some wearing off by end August and September, which is the usual flu season. I recommend having a booster in early August for all those with severe respiratory or heart disease.

16.01.2022 Covid #4 New Update from Dr Adrian Allen

13.01.2022 Covid #5 Update from Dr Adrian Allen

11.01.2022 The first graph shows the difference, at present, between Vic and NSW. The second graph shows Covid infections in Hunter New England from the start of all this until yesterday. Note that the last case where no contact was identified was on 15th April, about three months ago. The recent Port Stephens cluster now stands at 4 people (index case was a contact from Sydney, the Thai restaurant I think). At present there are a little over 150 people in 14 day isolation having come i...nto close contact with these 4 people. They are all being monitored daily by the Public Health Unit. It’s a very dynamic situation at present. NSW Health issued an ‘amber’ alert last Friday. All staff in NSW Health facilities will wear masks if within 1.5 meters of patients. Patients are asked to wear masks as well, if possible. We will be doing the same thing at the local surgery, until the situation settles down. If you have a cloth mask, I would ask you wear it if coming into the surgery, even if you do not have symptoms. This is for your protection and ours. A reminder the three most common symptoms of Covid are 1) cough 2) shortness of breath 3) fever See more

09.01.2022 The next and last flu vaccine clinic will be on Thursday 21st May. Both Dr Deng and I will be there all day. The vaccine delivery has been delayed, meaning the clinics planned for the coming week must be postponed. All those who were booked in will be called by us and rescheduled. All those not booked in so far are welcome to call and arrange a time to present. The clinic in May will be held at the Walcha Showground, rather than Oxley oval. ... The same process will occur, namely remain in your car, have the injection, then park for five minutes afterwards before leaving. I envisage arriving via the main gate and leaving via the North Street exit to avoid unnecessary entanglement. My thanks to the Walcha Show Committee for allowing us to use the showground. 07.01.2022 At this point in time, I think it would be beneficial to look for any Covid infection in Walcha in those that don’t have symptoms Next Thursday 21st May, those of you coming to our rather large Flu vaccine clinic at the show ground, please consider allowing us to test you. The procedure involves a swab taken in the nose. This is a little uncomfortable but is very brief. Deng and I will be taking the swabs. There is no cost for this at all. I hope we cover all age groups and... hope to include some children, as this group is supposed to be the most likely to be asymptomatic. I would encourage anyone else, not attending the clinic, to have the swab done at the surgery in the next few weeks. Again there is no cost. If we can get a large enough sample, there might be some useful data come out of this. At the very least it will give the Walcha residents some information about how safe we are or otherwise and how confident we can be going about our daily lives. Many thanks for your participation Adrian Allen See more

07.01.2022 The Breast Screen mammogram bus will be in Walcha next week for a few days from 2nd July. Due to Covid, the usual publicity has not occurred. This is for screening only i.e. for those without symptoms (lumps, pain, discharge, skin changes). Ring 13 20 50 Mammograms should start from 40 yrs of age and continue every 2nd year. Breast Screen specifically targets those between 50-70 yrs, but will happily accept anyone from 40 yrs who rings them.... They will also screen those over 70 yrs, who would like to continue.
