25.01.2022 The Oxley Highway is open over Christmas! Our information is that the pilot trip is 15 minutes, so if you just miss the vehicle the maximum wait is 30 minutes.

24.01.2022 Oxley Highway closed again until the 27-28 December at least. More fires and more damage to the west of Gingers Creek.

24.01.2022 A message to all of our valued guests. *WE ARE AND WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL FURTHER ADVICE* With the deepening impact of the viral outbreak we wish to reassure our customers that all reasonable steps are being taken to protect our guests, our staff and the wider community.... -Extra cleaning processes have been put into effect with a special emphasis on all areas regularly touched by hand. -Additionally, we have taken the decision to isolate rooms for 24 hours after check out to reduce the possibilities of transmission. We extend our best wishes to everyone for the coming weeks and months.

24.01.2022 This Saturday in their 125th year, the Walcha Rams take on the Tamworth Pirates at Peter Fenwicke Oval in Walcha at 3pm in the Central North Rugby Union Grand Final. Good luck boys.

21.01.2022 The Oxley Highway is still closed. This video gives an insight into what clean up crews face. Last week they actually had it open for a day then another fire came through. Lots of people call asking the status of the road. It will be open as soon as it is safe. Don't call us, keep your eye on this web page. It is updated regularly. https://www.livetraffic.com/desktop.html

19.01.2022 A reminder that the Oxley Highway is open east of Walcha. Motorists are advised to allow around 40 minutes extra travel time as vehicles are being escorted from one point to another. Motorists will be stopped and then escorted through one direction at a time, from Gingers Creek Roadhouse to Ralfes Trail at Mount Seaview. These arrangements will remain until further notice.

17.01.2022 Highlights of last weeks Motorcycle Weekend. A great success, we are booked out for next year already!

16.01.2022 Our contribution to Walcha's Open Air Gallery of Sculptures.

15.01.2022 Restaurants discovering what accommodation businesses have had to deal with for a while. Parasite web sites, in this industry taking up to 15% or more of the room rate (there's the profit gone) and requiring owners to sign contracts disallowing the advertising anywhere of lower room rates. In accommodation, the parasites are websites like bookingdotcom, wotif, hotelscombined, trivago etc. Please, by all means use these websites to compare prices but ONLY book on the hotel/mot...el's own website or pick up the phone and speak to a real person. We no longer deal with the parasites. Although they may still have our motel on line with "no rooms available" helpfully plastered over the listing. Your accommodation prices are getting loaded because of these parasites. Don't encourage them.

14.01.2022 Dick Smith speaks the truth. Don't book your accommodation on parasite sites, trivago, booking dot com, wotif etc. Take the time to find the motels own website. As Dick says, this is a legalised protection racket. Your money, not going into country towns but into the pockets of a couple of overseas billionaires who pay no Australian tax. Please share this video.

13.01.2022 Today we welcome the Late Mail Postie Bike Ride, supporting Wings 4 Kidz. http://wings4kidz.org.au/

13.01.2022 Can everybody please sign AND share this petition to protest the proposed speed limit changes to the Oxley Hwy. The businesses of Walcha have spent many years fostering and welcoming touring motorcyclists and do not wish to see that hard work destroyed. https://www.change.org/p/oxley-highway-wauchope-to-walcha-n

13.01.2022 Competition watchdog re-examines contracts tying motels to online booking sites Article from abc.com.au 12/09/18 Thanks everyone, were having an influence! Wit...h over 2.5 million views on the video and enormous coverage in the media, already, family accommodation owners are telling me that there are more people booking direct, so billions of dollars are not being syphoned out of our country. Thanks for the incredible support and sharing the video. Have a read of the article below which covers the issue really well. Isnt it fantastic that the ACCC are now looking at taking further action so family businesses can fairly compete in Australia without being forced to pay money to Northern Hemisphere billionaires. Please read article here: https://www.dicksmithfairgo.com.au//12.09.18_Competition-w

11.01.2022 Haven't seen the falls like that for a long time.

11.01.2022 And on it goes. Boycott these leeches and keep your money and its resultant taxes in Australia. A massive con, driving up the cost of booking accommodation in Australia. They have legal protection to charge family businesses 15-25% commission whilst denying those businesses the right to offer a lower price for a direct booking.

11.01.2022 Oxley Highway open again.

10.01.2022 For your viewing enjoyment, today we updated the TVs in our three Deluxe Queen rooms. 50" Hisense Smart TVs.

09.01.2022 About bloody time. Antitrust legislation is sorely needed to protect these small businesses that currently operate with a corporate boot on their throats.

09.01.2022 You can only book our motel online via our own website www.walchamotel.com.au. If there is any discount to be had on the prices quoted there you will get them by phoning us direct. The rooms necessarily have to be listed at full rate, but a lower rate is available if the room is at less than maximum occupancy. We also offer a discount for Seniors Card and for three or more nights. We took the decision some time ago not to use these Online Travel Agents because of the steep fe...es, and the fact that they do not allow us to offer a lower rate on our own website. Having said that, we are in a somewhat unique position of not really having any direct competition, and our website host has our own site ranking #1 on Google. However that does not seem to stop the odd OTA from listing our motel on their website with "no rooms available" for any given day. How's that for ethics? We sympathise with the majority of motel operators who are literally forced to list with these iniquitous extortionists or else go out of business.

09.01.2022 After over 14 years, we have decided to put our motel business up for sale. With a lease in place until 2044, this is an opportunity to live in a great area for less than half the price of an average Sydney house. Residence has 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and 2 living areas plus a private yard. Motel has a mostly disused licensed restaurant. One motel town. First option to purchase freehold when it becomes available. Great lifestyle, and a mecca for motorcyclists who come all yea...r round to ride some of the best roads in the country. Walcha has the biggest renewable energy project in Australia's main grid slated to begin construction within the next couple of years under the management of Danish global wind turbine manufacturing giant Vestas. Please contact us direct on 02 6777 2599 in the first instance. Our sole broker is Manenti Quinlan & Associates. https://www.mq.com.au//motel-leasehold-for-sale-o/5087380/

07.01.2022 Thunderbolt's Way is now open!

07.01.2022 Visitors to Walcha will do well to visit Dobson's Distillery in nearby Kentucky for selection of world class spirits, beers & wines. http://www.eastviewestate.com

06.01.2022 In great news for our town, Danish global wind turbine manufacturing giant Vestas has taken over the Walcha Energy Project. This 4 gigawatt project, expected to start initial operations in 2022, is the biggest and most ambitious renewable energy project in Australia's main grid. The electrical generation potential is equivalent to 15% of NSW's electricity demand, more than the output of Liddell Power Station.... Energy will come from a combination of a wind farm, a solar farm, pumped hydro energy and includes a 150MWh battery energy storage system and a 330kV substation. The whole operation will connect to a Renewable Energy Hub in Uralla, which will facilitate connection to future renewable developments.

06.01.2022 A local gin maker has taken out double-gold in a World Spirits Competition. Check out how their award-winning drop is made.

05.01.2022 At last! The Oxley Highway is open at 12 noon today (Thursday 19/12).

03.01.2022 Great food option if you are staying in the motel.

03.01.2022 For your information: Transport for NSW is reprioritising resources across the state to fire affected areas in an attempt to open crucial highways for motorists... and freight as priority in the lead up to Christmas. The Oxley Highway is to reopen to traffic by the weekend under strict traffic management with the support of escort vehicles. These arrangements will operate 24 hours a day and remain in place until the highway is fully opened to traffic. Repair work will continue in the new year under traffic control. A 10 kilometre section between Ralfes Trail and the Gingers Creek store will be open to one lane of traffic with alternate flow and under the control of escort vehicles. Vehicles will travel at reduced speed while under the escort. Motorists are advised to expect lengthy delays. The highway closed to traffic in late October after highway infrastructure and the road surface were heavily impacted by bushfires. For the latest traffic updates download the Live Traffic NSW App, visit livetraffic.com or call 132 701.
