23.01.2022 More about webcams: just sent out an email to Newsletter recipients repeated below just in case you didn’t get a copy: ‘Just because the Walgett Aero Club Newsletter hasn’t been out for a while (It is ‘occasional’, after all) doesn’t mean nothing has been happening (Probably recovering from the 60th anniversary bash where are the photos, BTW?). It took some time but here is an updated webcam list to assist VFR pilots to supplement their flight planning.... Changes are inevitable for a number of reasons and caution should be taken to verify images not displaying a current date/time stamp: sponsors change websites are updated 'station operator's SIM may have run out of credit’ If there is no date/time stamp, check back after a few minutes to see if the picture has changed. Airservices Australia have recognised the importance of webcams at sensitive locations and are always looking for further suggestions. ozforecast.com.au have done an excellent job in expanding this coverage. Download all the links found so far from https://www.dropbox.com//WEATHER4VFRpilots_abbreviated.doc NB: Google Earth is an excellent platform for uploading your webcams (Go to Layers> Primary Database> Gallery > Webcams.travel ADD) A limited number of webcams have been uploaded to date. How about you put your's up? I notice Kilmore and Murrurundi Gaps now have webcams but not at Cunningham’s Gap and even though Armidale, NSW has one, it could be handy to have one at Walcha - that’s where the clouds start to hang about? Errors and omissions appreciated. As Nancy Bird would have said, ‘happy landings’’

21.01.2022 Wouldn't it be nice to have a paddock like this to land in at the moment?

21.01.2022 Well done (not biased, of course) to former student of Walgett High School and WAC member Peter Austin his next project is to have his students put together a Van’s Aircraft RV-12 iS to be shipped to Narromine next year.

18.01.2022 Flying a drone near Walgett? Check out CASA's App - used to be called 'Can I Fly Here' recently updated to 'OpenSky'

16.01.2022 Aeroclub meeting tomorrow night. Wednesday 02/12/20. 6:30 start. Everyone welcome. Thank you

15.01.2022 The Walgett Aero Club's cap was spotted on Lighthouse Beach at Port Macquarie during the memorial service for Judy Hodge, owner of the local floatplane service, whose recurrence of cancer had caught up with her. Attendees were invited to wear something that identified themselves as a pilot to the other many members of the aviation community who had come from afar - Darwin, Victoria, Sydney included. Also present was Bill Lane, recently re-instated, despite his medical, as CFI to facilitate the handing over of Judy's business. Bill converted Judy to floats, as he did me and, he thinks, Collarenebri expat George Kable. (photos knocked off from Alex McNaught.

11.01.2022 A funny thing happened on take off I wonder if the pilots of the Lion Air and Ethiopian Boeing 737 Max crashes had the same problem I did? but I was flying the C182S we later bought from Lucy Kerr after Hamish ran into trouble. You shouldn’t speculate, but I couldn’t help but remember the situation Captain Champion de Crespigney found himself in on flight QF32 when an engine fell off a brand new A380 leaving Singapore. Despite having a shitload of experienced pilots in t...he cockpit to troubleshoot the manual, it all boiled down to flying the aircraft by the basics, as you would learning to fly in a little Cessna. I had just taken off from Dubbo on the return trip to Walgett after Hamish had asked me to fly his plane back while he continued on to Sydney. His C182S was in all respects similar to the Club’s C182 albeit some 20 years younger. The difference was in the tri-axis autopilot for which I will be forever grateful to Hamish for instructing me on its operation. Leaving Hamish at Dubbo, I took off for Walgett, and, on climb, at low altitude, below cruise speed, I hit the autopilot button. Guess what happened? The C182S immediately turned a sharp left heading back to Dubbo, and the airspeed would have been rapidly falling to stall speed. Fortunately for Hamish’s advice, I turned the bloody autopilot off and headed for Walgett knowing I knew, and Hamish’s C182S knew, where to go. To me, Lion Air and Ethiopian Air pilots may have done the same thing? On takeoff in climb, low altitude, lower airspeed, then a sudden sharp turn putting the aircraft into a dive from which they were unable to recover. Did someone hit the autopilot button and not disengage it? Lack of appropriate pilot training? God knows. Let’s wait for the unbiased report. See more

04.01.2022 The list of available webcams to assist pilots has been updated with the following new installation at Port Macquarie/Bonny Hills https://www.bonnyhillsbeachhouse.com.au/weathercam/

04.01.2022 Tickets are selling quickly for Walgett Aero Club's 60 Year Anniversary Dinner next Friday 9th November! Book yours today so you don't miss out - https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/walgett-aero-club-60-year-a

03.01.2022 Let's talk about WEBCAMS that are already installed that can assist our VFR pilots. A comprehensive list across Australia has now been updated and downloadable from https://www.dropbox.com//WEATHER4VFRpilots_abbreviated.doc . If you're flying to Walgett (eg returning home) the cameras found on http://ozforecast.com.au at Gurley, Morenvale and Camero look good. All we need is a camera on Joey Fleming"s at Ulah (facing East?) and we have the Shire covered?

02.01.2022 Always a good read - 'don't try this at home' (unless you have a good instructor and the right attitude and altitude) https://www.boldmethod.com//the-four-steps-of-spin-recov/
