24.01.2022 The Walhalla Cricket Club is desperately seeking players for a social fundraising game to be played at Walhalla on Sunday 29th November. Skill level is not that important as it is not a serious game with money raised going to Movember. Please message me if you are up to the challenge!!

23.01.2022 WALHALLA IS ADOORABLE! (Week 5) Five weeks ago we started a competition for our followers. Every Friday night at 6.00PM (plus or minus 5 minutes) we will post a... photo of a Walhalla door. The first person to correctly identify the door will receive a double pass for the Walhalla Ghost Tours. (This can be redeemed once travel restrictions are lifted and our tours are running again.) Congratulations to to last weeks winner who correctly identified the door as the front door of Valhalla House. (It did take a few hints though!!!) Good luck! Looking forward to seeing everyone in Walhalla after the COVID19 health emergency. Until then regularly check out our Facebook page for interesting posts and don't forget to check us out again next Friday night for your chance to win. Well here is door number 5!

23.01.2022 MOTHER NATURE CREATES PROBLEMS!! With the planned social charity game coming up on November 29th we are in preparation mode. We were all set to mow the oval 2 days ago (and then weekly un til the game) and alas the access road to the ground is completely blocked. Not one but two enormous eucalypts have fallen across the road, and literally one on top of the other. The blockage is about 8 feet (2.4m) high and you cannot get, under, through or over it. Each tree is 4-5 feet (1....2-1.5m) in diameter. Parks (VIC) have been notified and our local ranger (top bloke but he can't play cricket!!) is going to check it out over the weekend with the intention of getting it cleared ASAP. Far too big for most chainsaws. Probably a bulldozer job! The mowing will just have to wait a week. Also a big thank you to those local cricketers who have reached out to help us fill a team for the day. I'm happy to say that we now have a full Walhalla team!!

22.01.2022 WALHALLA IS ADOORABLE! (Week 3) Two weeks ago we started a competition for our followers. Every Friday night at 6.00PM (plus or minus 5 minutes) we will post a ...photo of a Walhalla door. The first person to correctly identify the door will receive a double pass for the Walhalla Ghost Tours. (This can be redeemed once travel restrictions are lifted and our tours are running again.) We have had comments that last week was too easy so we have decided to throw in a tricky one. Looking forward to seeing everyone in Walhalla after the COVID19 health emergency. Until then check us out again next Friday night for your chance to win. Well here is door number 3!

22.01.2022 While Walhalla is still closed due to the COVID19 pandemic we are doing a few videos to keep people interested. This one on the Fire Station. We will do a Walhalla Sports (including the Cricket Ground) in the next few weeks.

21.01.2022 Don't forget to tune in tonight at 6.00PM for our weekly WALHALLA IS ADOORABLE online photo competition. We have a corker tonight!! Just be the first to iden...tify the Walhalla door in the picture to win a double pass on the Walhalla Ghost Tour (when it starts again after COVID19 restrictions have been lifted.) See more

20.01.2022 VEHICLE ACCESS ROAD TO WCG STILL BLOCKED. As reported earlier the vehicle access road road to the Walhalla Cricket Ground is still blocked by two enormous trees, which essentially fell on top of one another. This blockage is located approximately 150m the oval side of the Britannia Spur track. We will be clearing these in the next few days so that urgent maintenance work on the ground, for a coming social game can be carried out.... Watch this space for more details!

19.01.2022 CHARITY SOCIAL CRICKET MATCH - November 29th For about a month we have been considering a charity social cricket match at the Walhalla Cricket Ground with funds going to Movember (Mens health charity). We can now officially announce that this will happen! (With the current COVID 19 pandemic we could not be 100% sure this would proceed.) The 20/20 match will be next Sunday the 29th of November and will commence soon after 12.00 noon. A composite team representing Walhalla will... play a team representing Rawson. Please BYO everything including food, drinks and a chair (or you can sit on the log boundary.) No food or drinks will be available at the ground due to Covid 19 catering issues. Please wear a mask and observe all COVID principals including social distancing. To raise funds for Movember we will be holding a raffle on the day with a maximum of 200 tickets available. Tickets are $5 each and first prize is a Walhalla Experience Package which includes... - 2 nights accommodation at Sancreed Cottage in the heart of Walhalla. - a meal for 2 at the Walhalla Lodge Hotel. - a voucher for 2 at the Long Tunnel Extended Mine. - a voucher for 2 on the Walhalla Ghost Tour. (Special thanks to all of our sponsors who donated these prizes.) The raffle will be drawn at the Walhalla Lodge Hotel after the game. A great cause, a great venue, looks like great weather and all we need is a great game and a supportive crowd!!

19.01.2022 WALHALLA IS ADOORABLE! (Week 2) Last week we started a competition for our followers. Every Friday night at 6.00PM (plus or minus 5 minutes) we will post a phot...o of a Walhalla door. The first person to correctly identify the door will receive a double pass for the Walhalla Ghost Tours. (This can be redeemed once travel restrictions are lifted and our tours are running again.) Last week it only took Sandra (our week 1 winner) 2 minutes to correctly identify the side door of the historic Walhalla Fire Station. Looking forward to seeing everyone in Walhalla after the COVID19 health emergency. Until then check us out again next Friday night for your chance to win. Well here is door number 2!

18.01.2022 WALHALLA IS ADOORABLE! (Week 1) For those that missed the earlier post we are having an online competition every Friday night at about 6.00PM (give or take 5 mi...nutes). We will post a picture of a Walhalla door. All you have to do, to win a ticket for 2 on our Ghost Tours (when they resume after the COVID19 emergency), is to be the first to identify the door! One gift voucher per person. We plan to run this competition over 10 weeks but may extend it depending on popularity! And attached is the photo of our first door!

17.01.2022 Great to see this Walhalla icon back on track!

17.01.2022 NEWS FROM THE WALHALLA CRICKET CLUB This is the first post for a while as it has been very quiet due to COVID. 1/ Attached is a photo of the ground taken yesterday after it was freshly mowed. The surface looks pretty good but will need to be fertilised in the next month or so.... 2/ The regrowth of young eucalypts around the ground is incredible following the bushfire. We will be spraying much of this regrowth to keep the ground open and minimise any shadowing of the ground. This impedes grass growth and also the roots draw the moisture out of what is already a very dry ground. 3/ The WCC has been in discussions with the Rawson Cricket Club regarding the possibility of having two charity games at the ground this season. This will be entirely reliant on the COVID situation at the time. 4/ The AGM of the WCC will be held as soon as possible considering the COVID situation. Watch this space for more details. 17.01.2022 The second virtual tour - this time to the Walhalla Fire Station, one of the town's most unusual buildings. We also cover the history of the Walhalla Fire Brigade. Walhalla is still closed due to the COVID19 pandemic. A special thanks to Lauren Brewer for editing this - a job well done...

16.01.2022 Great news, the camping grounds in Walhalla are now open! All campgrounds have been made COVID safe. In line with current restrictions the following changes h...ave been put in place: Communal BBQ's and shared kitchen facilities are currently unavailable. Increased scheduled cleaning of amenities. COVID safe signage installed. If you are heading out to Walhalla for a break this weekend, please follow the guidelines and restrictions in place. To keep up to date with the current restrictions, please visit our COVID-19 community hub here https://www.bawbawshire.vic.gov.au/COVID-19-Community-Suppo

15.01.2022 https://www.facebook.com//a.134011209824/10157713928084825/ The ABC are asking for peoples thoughts on "Where they should go" in Victoria when restrictions are... lifted. All those people planning a trip to Walhalla or even those who have special feelings for our little town please follow the attached link and cast a vote for us!!! Remembers that we are a tourist town and right now, as restrictions ease, we need advertising!

15.01.2022 WALHALLA IS ADOORABLE! (Week 6) Six weeks ago we started a competition for our followers. Every Friday night at 6.00PM (plus or minus 5 minutes) we will post a ...photo of a Walhalla door. The first person to correctly identify the door will receive a double pass for the Walhalla Ghost Tours. (This can be redeemed once travel restrictions are lifted and our tours are operating again.) Congratulations to to Darryl, last weeks winner, who correctly identified the door as the front door of Spetts Cottage. (It did take a few hints though and I took the liberty to award him the winner even though the spelling was incorrect!!!) This was a rather tricky door. This weeks door is one that is used a fair bit more often! (And that is our only clue for this week.......I hope....... I will be very disappointed if it takes more than 5 minutes to get a winner tonight!) Looking forward to seeing everyone in Walhalla after the COVID19 health emergency. Until then regularly check out our Facebook page for interesting posts and don't forget to check us out again next Friday night for your chance to win. Well here is door number 6!

14.01.2022 Some visitors to Walhalla just don't get it.....

13.01.2022 BEWARE OF SNAKES The following note was received by Naomi at the Walhalla Post Office today. It makes you realise that the general population are supportive of our endeavours and are great people. ... The "honesty fridge" has been at the WCG for 18 months and all we have lost is a few tennis balls. The bats are still there. Thanks to this family for their donation. It will buy more tennis balls!

10.01.2022 In recent weeks we have been alerted to some damage caused by irresponsible 4x4s at the Walhalla Cricket Ground. The vehicle access gate to the Walhalla Cricket Ground track (about 7km north of Walhalla) had been bulldozed open and an attempt had been made to get vehicles onto the ground. Thankfully the gate onto the ground could not be broken. Parks Victoria have been alerted to this damage but it would be appreciated if everyone keeps their eyes open and reports such damage.

08.01.2022 CRICKET RETURNS (COVID PERMITTING!) The Walhalla Cricket Club and the Rawson Cricket Club are working towards a social fundraising game to be played at the historic Walhalla Cricket Ground on Sunday November 29th. The game will follow the 20-20 format and all proceeds from the day will go towards Movember (Mens health). People are invited to the ground from about 12.00 Noon and it is anticipated that play will be over by about 4.00PM. This will be a social game and it is BYO... everything. A raffle will be conducted on the day with all money also going to Movember. If you are a Walhalla local, a WCC member or just want to help Walhalla CC defeat the lot from Rawson please contact me! I will supply the sandpaper!!!! Seriously this should be a bit of fun and as long as COVID numbers continue to fall it should be a great fun day. We will obviously be taking all required COVID safe requirements and this will include spacing spectators around the boundary. Watch this space for more details as we are in the early stages of planning and there is still a pandemic happening....... If all goes well on the day we may play another match in late January, this time in Rawson, with the funds to the Pink Ribbon charity (for breast cancer research.) (What is the significance of the photo? Lots of ducks in Walhalla!!)

05.01.2022 A big thank you to Gareth Davies for organising this!!!

04.01.2022 WALHALLA IS ADOORABLE! (Week 4) Three weeks ago we started a competition for our followers. Every Friday night at 6.00PM (plus or minus 5 minutes) we will post ...a photo of a Walhalla door. The first person to correctly identify the door will receive a double pass for the Walhalla Ghost Tours. (This can be redeemed once travel restrictions are lifted and our tours are running again.) Congratulations to to last weeks winner who correctly identified the doors of the Grey Horse Cafe. Looking forward to seeing everyone in Walhalla after the COVID19 health emergency. Until then regularly check out our Facebook page for interesting posts and don't forget to check us out again next Friday night for your chance to win. Well here is door number 4!

03.01.2022 WCG ACCESS ROAD CLEARED After about 3 hours work the vehicular access road to the Walhalla Cricket Ground is now open. The road had been blocked for about a month by two enormous eucalypts that had fallen on top of one another. Although Parks (Vic) had been alerted to the problem they had been unable to clear the blockage due to short staffing. The WCC subsequently offered to do the work.... Jim, Richard and myself cleared the trees today. Three chainsaws, chains, 4x4's and a lot of hard work was needed. With the trees cleared we could access the ground and mow the oval, something that was a few weeks overdue! (Refer the third photo.) The first 4x4 to visit the ground today was about 15 minutes after the road was cleared and shows just how many people visit our little ground.

02.01.2022 A short virtual tour of the historic and topographically spectacular Walhalla Cemetery
