25.01.2022 Best holiday fun for kids helping wildlife. Our Junior Wildlife Ranger Holiday Camp kicked off yesterday. Spots are still available Friday this week and Thursday and Saturday next week. Here we are releasing a rescued wild echidna, because that's what wildlife rangers do! http://www.walkaboutpark.com.au//kids-camp-for-junior-wild

25.01.2022 Yes, it's a goanna. His tummy is full so he'll be off to bed. His home is in a dead tree in our wildlife sanctuary. His door is a hollow branch 20 meters up, then he crawls along and down inside the trunk to sleep in the roots.

24.01.2022 UPDATE 23/11: Thanks everyone. We've got a local builder coming in this week to put up the shed. We are working to make more safer places for our animals in case of bushfire. We're looking for quotes to erect a 7m x 4m colorbond shed. The slab is in place. We've got the shed. Now we need someone to put it up. Please PM with your contact details if you'd like to quote. Thanks!

23.01.2022 11:20am boomerang throwing every day. Such fun for kids of any age, but especially for grown up kids.

23.01.2022 Gumnut the koala meets Jarli . Koalas spend a surprising amount of time on the ground. That's why it's so important we don't let our dogs run in the bush.

22.01.2022 Kanangra and her joey having a cuddle (and a health check). Mum and baby are fine! Ranger Lauren with her arms full of swamp wallaby.

21.01.2022 3 little surprise boxes flew in from Victoria this evening, arriving at our gate at midnight. Can you guess their species? They're ferocious little hunters. They're teeny tiny cousins of the Tasmanian devil. They've got spots on their bodies but not on their tails. They've got spiky tails and pouches. Cats and dogs, along with foxes, drove them to extinction on mainland Australia. They're endangered and in serious trouble. You will need to visit us after dark if you want to meet them. We'll post pictures of their adventures over the next few weeks as they settle in, and share ideas about how you can help to save them from extinction.

14.01.2022 Can you name this creature? Clue: Australia's deadliest land animal. Answer: Her name is Angry Rhonda. I love her eyes (yes, those are her eyes) and the elastic bands on her legs. She lives at our Walkabout Park Wildlife Sanctuary. She is a Sydney Funnel Web Spider, an ancient species from the days of dinosaurs.

13.01.2022 UPDATE 6/10: Thank you everyone for your help and the PM advice. I think we have a solution. gocopy.com.au has come up with an affordable machine for us. Thanks gocopy for helping us to keep doing what we do. (I don't think they have a facebook page, but if they do, I will add it later). ORIGINAL POST: Does anyone know where we can buy a secondhand A3 paper folder for the safety info and map that we have to give to guests? I can only find new ones online and they're way too expensive. At the moment our rangers do the folding, but this is taking time away from the animals. Any ideas are welcome!

11.01.2022 Do you recognise this tail? The spiky hairs give these animals and their Tasmanian devil cousins their family name "dasyurid" or "spiky tail". This is the Easter quoll. Almost the same tail as the Spotted-tail quoll, except ... no tail spots!

11.01.2022 Junior Ranger-in-training at Walkabout Park Wildlife Sanctuary

09.01.2022 I love the Australian bush at night. Brush-tail possum mum with her joey almost invisible in the branches right above me. Wild wildlife wide awake watching.

07.01.2022 Thankyou so much to everyone at walkabout park for making Gabbys birthday ‘ranger for a day’ present so amazing! What a tremendous park! Such a beautiful location. Highly recommend making the trip out to experience this truely wonderful sanctuary.

07.01.2022 HRBurn outside our entrance completed late last night. Area along Peats Ridge Rd and Darkinjung Rd now safe for summer. Thankyou RFS Mt White and all Central Coast RFS crews.

06.01.2022 We have lost a wonderful friend. David Pross found us, and became our first friend when we arrived on the Central Coast 15 years ago. From day one, David was a hero, helping Gerald and me to understand the significance and responsibilities of caring for Country here at Walkabout Park Wildlife Sanctuary. Without David, we would have been completely lost. Over the years, David gave so much of his own time, knowledge, experience and expertise to help Gerald and me. Nothing was e...ver too much. Most people would never know the level of Dave's generosity. He was here at the sanctuary so often, people assumed he was a paid consultant, but he wasn't. What David was, was our friend! Whether we were fighting the sand quarry or searching for lost Aboriginal sites in the bush to prove how important the Calga Valley is, or just tired and needing a friend to make us laugh and know the world is a good place, David was always here. When his legs were aching from those damned sores that wouldn't heal, he was here. When his own life was a little chaotic, he was here. Whenever we needed him, David was always here. He took Gerald and me on as a project, dubbing us "Trainee Aussies" ... and he took it on himself to be our teacher. David and Christine Walsh were and always will be an incredible team, and their kids are their legacy. It doesn't matter how tough life gets, David and Chris are always there for their children and their friends. What a man! What a family! Sending love forever! ...Tassin and Gerald PHOTO: 2019 David and Happy Feet See more

05.01.2022 Listen for scratchy noises and subtle thumps, then follow your ears. You never know who you will see here in our wildlife sanctuary. So many animals busy in the bush.

04.01.2022 Our Junior Ranger Kids' Camp has been so much fun for everyone (rangers AND kids). Our last camp this holidays is running this Saturday 10 October. Phone us on 43751100 or book online if your kids want to join in. $95 includes 4 hours of ranger activities and lunch. Age 7 to 12 from 11am to 3pm.

04.01.2022 OMGosh we have got the BEST Christmas Present idea! We've got this really cool new gift card that sends a video (or a written message) that YOU record. AND you decide the date it will be delivered! It's called a Wild Dreaming Gift Card. Imagine waking up on Christmas morning in Australia, your phone goes "bing", you open the email and it's a video visit from your mum in the UK dressed up like a reindeer singing "Jingle Bells!!!!" with a Christmas voucher for you to visit ...the animals. We do do virtual visits too, so if you're overseas you can still use your gift card to come and hang out with our rangers and animals, right from your lounge room. And you can use your voucher for absolutely anything. Tickets, virtual visits, gift shop, personal ranger hire, adoptions. Anything! You choose any value for the voucher. Maybe in her video-visit your mum says "use your voucher to visit the animals and have a special speed date with an echidna", but it's completely flexible, so if you want to use the voucher for a different experience, you're welcome. Our Wild Dreaming Gift Cards are ultimately personal! You make your own video, or you can write, your own message. You enter the email address to send it to. You decide the day, and even the time, to deliver it. So you can choose, say, 7:20 am on Christmas morning. If you prefer, you can tell the gift card to email itself to you today so you can deliver it (email or print it out) when you're ready. 03.01.2022 Meet our Eastern quolls. They're the tiny plain-tailed cousin of the Spotted-tail or Tiger quoll that lives wild in Calga. Eastern quolls are also from this area, but went extinct on the Australian mainland because of foxes and domestic dogs. Please help us to help them. If you visit us, 100% of your ticket price goes to care for our animals and our wildlife rehabilitation, breed-for-release and wild population reestablishment programs.

02.01.2022 UPDATE: FULL VIDEO POSTED TODAY. YES HE IS A GOANNA. The reptiles are waking up hungry after their big winter sleep. Do you know who this is? I'll update with the answer and post another video later, so you can see the rest of him. Clue: The little Tamar wallabies were nervous but they didn't need to be as his tummy looks pretty full, I think he is headed off to bed.

02.01.2022 Ordinary people doing important stuff for the environment. Gosh I love our community. Thanks everyone who is heading down to the beach this weekend to give a hand cleaning up. Doing it for the octopus. Doing it for the turtles. Doing it for our planet.
