24.01.2022 Just finished welding the latest sculpture which will be on display during the Armadale Hills Open Studio Arts Trail. So have an adventure in the beautiful hills area and pop into a few artists studios (not forgetting this one of course).

23.01.2022 Armadale Hills Open Studio Arts Trail is fast approaching. All the artists have been very busy promoting and preparing their studios for the onslaught of visitors. I was busy yesterday clearing a path to my studio/workshop through the tonnes of gum nuts kindly left on the driveway by our beautiful native black cockatoos, lovely things they are, lovely.... Some studios are open during the full period but others including myself are only open for the 2 weekend including the Fr...idays. We have 14 studios open this year and I am glad to see that Roleystone has 8 studios open this year which I thing is great. I hope you can make it and I am looking forward to showing you my sculptures and around my studio. SO stick it in your diary and I'll see you all in a few weeks. All the studios will be prepared with hand sanitiser and social distancing with be strictly adhered to. See more

23.01.2022 See... here's proof that I didn't print the certificate for myself, it's a real award presented by the Mayor of Armadale.

22.01.2022 They said we would have an ant problem this year but this is taking the micky.

22.01.2022 Hi everyone, I've been thinking of making a baobab tree for a little bit now and have been asked about them from some of you so here's my first attempt for a hanging piece. I'll be making a few of these in 30cm, 40cm and 55cm diameter circles. This is a 30cm one and like a lot of my work it's got a little bit of weight to it. I would love to make a large sculpture of a baobab but I'm still mulling it over in my head on how to tackle it. I hope you like the first one, more to come.

22.01.2022 One of my customers kindly sent this photo of a gum nut sculptures she purchase from Walkers Steel Art a couple of years ago.

22.01.2022 It finally here, the biggest event on the WA calender. Lovely weather as well so there's no excuse to stay indoors now.

22.01.2022 More diverse than ever, this arts trail has textiles, fabrics, wood, glass, leather, steel, oil paint, acrylic, pastel and did I mention steel artists, oh yes I did! Come along and meet these wonderfully talented people.

21.01.2022 Here's a new little critter for your collection. I should have a few ready this weekend on the open studio arts trail.

20.01.2022 Walkers Steel Art future events: 1st Aug - Kalamunda Artisan Mkt 15th & 29th Aug - Farmers Market on Manning... 5th Sept - Kalamund Artisan Mkt 11th - 20th Sept - Armadale Hills Open Studio Arts Trail (my studio is open to the public on Friday, Saturday and Sunday during these dates). 26th Sept - 3rd Oct - The Royal Show (first time for us at the show, if you intend to go please pop over to our steel art display and say hello). I'll be having a bit of leave after all that, think I'll be a little bit tired, but back again in November and December ready for the Christmas festivities.

20.01.2022 My wife Louise has been nasking me a couple of times for a new letterbox so, with the arts trail starting this Friday, I thought that it's about time to make our new gum nut letterbox and here it is.

20.01.2022 Hi everyone, This is a sculpture I made a few months ago for a customer who, as you can see in the pics, have their own lake with jetty. We had a few problems with organising a day to get it mounted into position but today the planets aligned and it was set in place this afternoon. I am really pleased with the way it went and couldn't of asked for more with this beautiful scenic back ground.

20.01.2022 For my next piece I thought of making a self portrait. Not too sure now!

19.01.2022 At the Kalamunda Harden Festival this morning, a bit chilly but still a good day for it. The are guest speakers and music, all sorts of wonderful plants and of course the essential garden art. The Kalamunda Farmers Market is running alongside so plenty to see and there's also donuts

19.01.2022 I've just finished making a Praying Mantis for the trail. This will be on display to take orders during the arts trail.

18.01.2022 A special thanks to a new customer who sent me these pics of the dragonfly sculpture he recently bought from Walkers Steel Art. Looks like the ideal spot with all the other sculptures he owns.

17.01.2022 I forgot to mention that I will be at the Farmers Market on Manning this Saturday morning as well. I intend to be there once a month depending on other commitments.

16.01.2022 Just finished some of my giant daisies ready for the Christmas rush. They have been getting snapped up these past few weeks at the markets. The price range is from $160 to $250, smallest to largest (1.5m to 2.1m high) . They have a good strong base with 3 prongs to secure into the ground and look fantastic when rusty. They look great with all sorts of garden plants and even look smashing as a back drop to my 5 headed grass tree outside of my studio/workshop.

15.01.2022 This is a lovely couple from the Perth Hills close to my place who bought a round gum branch sculpture and also an octagon fire pit with a bracket to rest their paella dish on so they can cook over the wood fire, YUMMY. The round sculpture is actually 1.1m across but next to their huge front door it looks a bit small, I think they could do with a larger one. Thanks for the photos.

13.01.2022 Hi everyone, I decided to make another grass tree, it's been 3 years since I made one of these so I thought it was about time for another. It's a bit larger than the previous grass trees and stands at 3.7m high, I gave this one a decorative stand as well. I will be at the Farmers Market on Manning tomorrow and in my usual spot at the Kalamunda Artisan Market on Saturday 1st August. This sculpture is a bit to large to take to the usual markets but it will be presented on the Armadale Hills Open Studio Arts Trail on 11th - 20th and the Royal Show on 26th September - 3rd October (first time at the Royal show). If you would like to see this piece before these dates please get in touch and arrange a time to pop over.

12.01.2022 Pop in and say hello on this year's arts trail.

12.01.2022 I thought I would share some more details about the coming arts trail Walkers Steel Art is involved in. I'll be popping around a few studios before it starts (no time during the trail) to have a look at the amazing art work created by our local artists here in the Armadale Hills area. So how does the Arts Trail work? Well, the main thing is to get hold of the Trail map (it’s on our website - see link in profile), and very soon we’ll have physical copies in the @perthhillsarm...adale Visitor Centre and many cafes and galleries. The map/brochure lists all the studios, artists and sponsors participating in this year’s Trail, and points them out on the map. That means you can plan a lovely day out by selecting a bunch of studios to visit, as well as a coffee and or lunch stop at one or two of our sponsors! @davidgilesartstudios @purjusleatherbags @walkers_steel_art @ireneyoung8472 @ruthdevosart @roleystonewoodturning @studio53art @andreagaddartist Shared studios: @moslatestcreations & @lindastextiles @artfulflowe & @tlouzeglassartistry at @thepinkdeli @vickyalchinart & Tom Jarrett @corbeauartspace & Jeanette Dyson at @waterwheelgallery6112 Collectives: Armadale Society of Artists: @armadalearts The Champion Centre: including @dushong_art and Cheryl Biggs Sponsors: @david_giles_art_gallery @beanthrucoffee @theorganiccircle @the_pink_deli We can’t wait to see you on the trail!

11.01.2022 Just a quick update on the future events, Walkers Steel Art will no longer be attending the Perth Royal Show because the WA Gov have decided to cancel it. Oh well, there's always next year . Not to worry, Armadale Hills Open Studio Arts Trail is going to be a good one this year so get yourselves on the trail instead and have an adventure exploring all the studios. There are plenty of places to have a bight to eat and a cup of tea while you are out and about enjoying all the art. Here's a couple of my favourite cafes, The Pink Deli, The Organic Circle and Bean Thru. These are on the new trails brochure which you can find on the website (last post) or grab one from the studios on the day.

11.01.2022 Hi everyone, These are the new baobab hanging art pieces. There are 4 sizes stepping up from 22cm to 57cm and they have had a coating of xtroll to help keep that new fresh steel look. There is also a new extra large gum tree branch piece which has a more realistic look to it with lots more gum nuts and leaves weighing down the branch. If you would like to see these and the larger sculptures I have I will be open from 2pm to 6pm this Sunday so have a day out in the Perth Hills and pop in, say hello and see some art.

11.01.2022 I will be giving demonstrations on how I make some of my art throughout this weekend on the arts trail. So if you want to learn a few of my secrets in making the art why not pop along and find out. My studio is open to the public today until Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

10.01.2022 All set up for todays Kalamunda Artisan Market. Slight chill in the are but the suns out and here to stay all day so perfect weather for tge market.

10.01.2022 Hi everyone, Just about finished this latest round gum tree branch sculpture with a seperate frame to hang it from. This one is the largest so far just by a margin. It will get a couple of coats of clear before it's done. You will be able to see this on the up and coming Armadale Hills Open Studio Arts Trail which starts on 11th September and runs for two weekends including Fridays. Some of the studios on the arts trail will be open throughout the whole period. For more inf...o about the trail and the fantastic artists and their studios go to the website www.armadalehillsartstrail.com Armadale Hills Open Studio Arts Trail 2020 @armadalesocietyofartists @stonegateartstudio @purjusleatherbags @andreagaddartist @artfulflowe @tlouzeglassartistry Vickyalchinart @fearnspheasant @ruthdevostextileart @davidgilesartgallery @lindastokestextileartist moslatestcreations @roleystonewoodturning See more

08.01.2022 This is the new gum tree blossom sculpture you've seen in the last few posts. Now it's a clear coat applied which gives it a clear gloss shine which I do like on some of my sculptures.

07.01.2022 My studio will be open to the public as always during this year's arts trail where I will show you around my workshop and describe the various tools I use to make my steel sculptures.

06.01.2022 All set up at the Farmers Market on Manning.

05.01.2022 This is the latest garden arch I finished a week ago for a customer. I have included a few more leaves and nuts in this one. You will be able to see this just on Friday on the trail as it is getting collected that evening.

05.01.2022 Last weekend for this year's arts trail.

05.01.2022 Here's a quick video of the new gum tree blossom sculpture. It has a bit of a modern twist to it but still holds on to that natural look.

04.01.2022 All ready for the last day of the Armadale Hills Open Studio Arts Trail.

02.01.2022 Hi everyone, With the restrictions lifting I am happy to let you all know that Kalamunda Artisan Market is back. They are taking into account the social distancing aspect so they intend to space the stalls out a bit but I've been told that I still have my usual spot amongst the trees. It will be nice to enjoy that market vibe again and hopefully see a few of you. See you there.

02.01.2022 Only a couple of days to go for the start of this year's AHOSAT. A great adventure in the Perth Hills area exploring all the artistic treasures which I know will amaze you. This year sees more variety than ever and the artist are some of the best people and so talented, what they can accomplish with there minds, hands and hearts is outstanding.

02.01.2022 I'm slightly impressed with myself, just knocked up this little table to put the hand sanitizer on for the arts trail. Even with the disc brake mount it looks pretty good.

01.01.2022 Walkers Steel Art is set up and ready to go at the Farmers Market on Manning this morning. An excellent market to buy you local produce and a bit of steel art as well. There must be 100+ stalls and lots of food and coffee vans and surprisingly enough the sun is out and here to stay for c.f. the whole morning to ideal marketing weather.
