18.01.2022 I was supposed to be guiding a group along the Portugues coastal camino at this time, and tonight was going to be the highlight, staying with my wonderful friend Tanya in Oía, just over the border between Portugal and Spain.

15.01.2022 Funny that I titled my book Walking Back Home

11.01.2022 When I was researching the VDLP, it was hard to find much information as it is the road less travelled. I had only seen photos of long flat stretches but it is ...so much more than that. I have climbed mountains, seen green paddocks and lots of trees as well as finding myself parched, hot and exhausted on long dusty roads. The albergues are few and far between often with only 12 beds, but so far, I've only used my sleeping bag twice in 2weeks as the beds have all had sheets and quilts. There are NO cafes or trestle tables outside farm gates laden with food for pilgrims, and often long distances between towns. You have to carry a lot of water and lunch (often breakfast as well). The weather tends to be extreme and I should imagine you would need to wade through more than a couple of streams in springtime if it is raining. Very few pilgrims walk this route (have been travelling in a wave of about 20 people but only saw one pilgrim today)I'm posting this because no one seems to write about the VDLP and I would like to have known this when deciding which Camino to do. Having said this, although it is a tough one, it is very rewarding, and refreshingly spartan after the Frances mayhem. I have been pleasantly surprised and I'm chuffed that my photos actually show more than what I have seen in other sites and posts. It is rugged and beautiful at the same time. The Roman ruins are beyond amazing and well preserved, the sunrises are gob smackingly beautiful every day and I feel so alive See more

03.01.2022 Two years ago today, my little group arrived at Finisterre after walking the Camino Portugues. I look at this photo this morning and still can’t believe that th...is vibrant woman, seemingly the fittest of us all, was not going to be around much longer. She was so funny and energetic.
