22.01.2022 COVID-19 HELP The impact of this disease is just indescribable. This doesn't cover everything however hopefully some things here that may assist business and individuals. If you are a business that has employees, that has felt or WILL experience a downturn of 30% you can register for JobKeeper payments to keep your staff employed here:... https://www.ato.gov.au/general/gen/JobKeeper-payment/ This will provide a $1,500 fortnightly payment that must be paid to the employee. There are conditions that come with this that we can advise on. Likewise, if you are a sole trader with no employees, you can apply for this payment for yourself. If your business is no longer able to operate you may need to weigh up whether JobKeeper or JobSeeker would be more beneficial for you. We have more detailed information on the above and other business stimulus information, so please contact our office if you would like further information. Businesses can also access a 50% subsidy on wages of apprentices and trainees. More information on how to register can be found here: https://www.employment.gov.au/supporting-apprentices-and-tr If you have lost your job, JobSeeker applications can be made here: https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au//jobseeker-/how-claim Cash is king as always but particularly now. So businesses and individuals do your best at the moment to take every opportunity offered. The ATO are no longer taking legal action on outstanding debts and allowing 6 month interest fee payment options. If you are behind in your taxes, now is the time to catch up and speak with the ATO. The staff we have dealt at the ATO for clients over the last few days have been amazing and truly helpful. Make sure you have contacted your bank to put a hold on mortgage repayments. Or contacted your landlord to renegotiate rent. Councils are offering payment plans on fees interest free. Take advantage of that. You may be able to access up to $10,000 of your super early now, along with a potential second $10,000 in the next financial year. There is quite a lot of help out there available and hard to summarise. We have been inundated these last few days with queries, however if you require some guidance please make contact and we will try to assist you as best we can. There is lots of help out there for those in dire situations. This site has a great lot of information of who you can contact for help: https://moneysmart.gov.au/managing-d/urgent-help-with-money Most importantly, be kind to each other and hug your pet Susan Naismith WA COVID-19 Hotline - Phone 13 COVID Lifeline - Phone 13 11 14 Beyond Blue - Phone 1300 224 636 Kids Helpline - Phone 1800 551 800 MensLine - Phone 1300 789 978 Jobseekers Contact Line - Phone 132 850 Small business advice Phone 133 140

09.01.2022 JOB KEEPER UPDATE If you registered for the Jobkeeper updates you would have received a text from the ATO on Tuesday with a link with more information www.ato.gov.au/jobkeeper The NTAA, who I am a member with, have released a summary of this. It gives practical tips and answers some frequently asked questions. Should you like this to be forwarded, please private message with your email address and we would be happy to forward this on.... From the ATO update it is very important to note the following: - You must be registered or have your accountant / bookkeeper register for you. If you are going to register, please start the process now. There is a simple process of signing up. However you must also be registered on the business portal and link this to your MyGov ID. This is not a simple process and best trying to tackle this sooner rather than later. https://www.ato.gov.au//enrol-and-apply-for-the-jobkeeper/ - You must offer this to all employees, nominate them and the employees MUST accept the nomination. The form required to do this is here https://www.ato.gov.au//JobKeeper-payment---employee-nomi/ - The amount you can claim and must pay for EACH employee each month is $3,000 (except for September). You do not have to pay super on these amounts. You can choose to do so. You should have this payment set up in your accounting software correctly to report this payment separately to additional amounts paid over and above the $1,500. https://www.ato.gov.au//your-/amount-of-jobkeeper-payment/ - Please start the process now of gathering evidence on how your turnover has decreased by the required levels. - The big one to note here is if you are a sole trader who had employees you are eligible to register for your employees AND yourself! A great win!!!! Stay safe and hug your pet! Susan Naismith

08.01.2022 GOOD FEELS Yesterday we got to have cuddles with the Fosters, Bear and Bella. They have finally found the most wonderful home with Ed and Lana who were amazing to spare a whole bunch of their time so I could see these gorgeous two. Lana is a vet nurse and Ed has always had giant breeds, so they couldn’t have found a better family. I got smothered with kisses and cuddles - put the biggest smile on my face. Today Opie also got the all clear he is in remission. He got diagnosed ...with Lymphoma in early May and we have been going through chemo up until 5 weeks ago. We are going to ignore that there is a 50% chance it will come back within 12 month and just live his best life. He also did his cruciate a few weeks into diagnosis. As he was going through chemo I chose not to do surgery and wait until we were finished and just rest. Luckily he has recovered amazingly. He is walking, playing and more importantly swimming again. So for now whilst he is loving life we are just going to pain manage. He has been an absolute champion through the whole process, keeping it together for me I think. Love him to bits!!!! 07.01.2022 No Mum, you can’t claim my treats as wages in your tax return, even though I was your support worker this year.

07.01.2022 So my Foster Furbabies who I thought had found a permanent home need a new Foster or Forever home again. Unfortunately our current circumstances have changed and I can't take them back which I'm distraught about. They are full of character and so cheeky. Bear will have you in stitches and Bella will steal your heart. Do you have room for these two golden oldies in your home? I would recommend a home without other pets, and someone who is home more often than not and willing to groom. As you can see the interaction with dogs can be turned around but it took a lot of effort and tears and constant time outs. But they are so worth it. I would have them back in an instant if I could. If you can make room for these two, please contact Suzanne at Safe on 0437 870 245 Suzanne Campbell Susan Naismith

06.01.2022 2020 TAX TIME End of financial year is nearly upon us. Can’t believe it. It’s been one hectic year!! A lot of you will be getting ready to lodge your returns, especially after the hard times many have experienced in these last few months. The ATO are suggesting don’t rush into lodging your return. That the best time is after end of July to allow your employer, banks, health funds, etc finalise end of year information. This will ensure your return is accurate.... The ATO once again are focusing on work related claims and rental property owners. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t claim what you are entitled to, instead ensure you have and keep good records. If you have any questions about potential claims, please get in touch and we will assist with any queries. https://www.abc.net.au//tax-time-ato-work-related/12359448

05.01.2022 HOME OFFICE CLAIMS DURING COVID-19 The ATO have announced that they will allow an 80 cent per hour claim for those working from home during the period 1 March to 30 June 2020. This will cover all usage expenses including phone and internet. You also do not have to have a designated study, which is required normally. Please note, that this method may come in less from other methods of claim available. ... As always it is essential you keep good adequate records. So your accountant can work out what is the best method of claim for you, as always please do the following: - Keep a log of the hours you are completing at home on a spreadsheet. - If you use your phone normally for work, please have an itemised bill that you can highlight work calls vs private calls to get a business log. If you don't have an itemised bill, keep a spreadsheet over a four week period. - For internet claims you are meant to note the amount of data downloaded for work compared to the total data downloaded from the household to determine a percentage - Determine the percentage area that your home office is compared to the rest of the house - Keep records of all usage bills such as electricity, water (usuage only not rates), gas, cleaning products, etc. - Keep invoices of any purchases for the home office. The more information you can supply, the larger the claim we can submit for you Susan Naismith
