25.01.2022 Good bye to daylight savings for much of the East Coast of Australia tonight. What's your cat going to do with that extra hour ?

23.01.2022 Looking forward to meeting and talking with people at the Wellness Expo on Saturday March 3rd at Princes Wharf, Hobart 10am - 3pm. Come along and say hi at the Doula services stall in the middle of the venue.

23.01.2022 Taking you gently down the path of your beloved pets end of life. You are on a beautiful road of love and joy with your pet when you encounter the heartbreaking news that your pet has a life-limiting illness. Like other losses, this goes straight to your core, your heart pounds and pounds with numbness. Your 4 legged joy leads you on a journey of learning, questions, more gaining of knowledge, more questions and the need to make various decision. Decisions about medical trea...tments and likelihoods of response are probably forefront of your mind. Making decisions about what interventions, when and for how long are often not simple, straight forward or easy to make. Your path of newly gained knowledge and your gut (inner knowing) no doubt will collide. There is no right answer but you know the loss, be it in days, weeks, months or years is going to unfathomable. Who is going to hold your hand, hold you in this space of love, loss and unthinkable? Some will have the right person there with them every step of the way, some will have just the right person to call upon, some will reach for unwise choices. Who will you have? An End of Life doula is one person who can walk this path with you. MAKING THE DECISION TO CHANGE THE FOCUS FROM CURE TO COMFORT Working closely with your vet for the best medical knowledge and with your doula you come to a heavy decision that your pets remaining life is about comfort and care rather than a cure for the disease. Care and medical attention at this time is known as palliative care. Care that you offer your beloved pet until they die; on their own terms or medically by being euthanized. WHAT DOES GOING DOWN A PATH OF PALLIATIVE CARE FOR YOUR PET LOOK LIKE? 7 things to consider How is your home environment set up to accommodate your pet? This includes the physical space and people to assist (your family/tribe). What is the management plan for your pet? Diet, exercise, physical mobility, hygiene etc How comfortable are you administering any medication or how will this be done? How confident in recognising your pets pain and responding? What tools do you have in place to measure changes in your pet? What recommendations are there to accommodate changes in your pet? How will you know when to reach out for assistance for yourself?

22.01.2022 For many, the bond we have with pets and our 4 legged friends is unconditional, brings much joy and happiness. It also brings sadness, sorrow, and deep grief as they leave this world. Treasure their need to be in your arms and provide your arms to others when they are farewelling their beloved animal loves.

21.01.2022 What a beautiful heart felt gift this young woman is giving herself, the animals and each of us. Until you die you're alive - love it.

17.01.2022 Amongst the breaking news this week was that Julian Assange's cat was safe. Apparently, the WikiLeaks founder asked his lawyer to take care of his cat once his time at the Ecuadorian Embassy ended. One can only imagine the comfort this cat has given him over these last 7 years. The life of this cat seems much like his, unknown to what the future holds. Have you taken on a pet knowing you may not have it for life ? Have you had to deal with unforeseen changes that impacted on a your pets future ? A big one that comes to mind is pets of owners that are needing to go into care themselves. Double loss, for both pet owner and pet. I'd love to know of any projects aimed at locally rehoming pets in this situation that includes the new owners taking the pet in for visits.

13.01.2022 Losses of love are substantial, they tear us apart, the shape us, they give us meaning and they can shake us to the core. Love is love and grief is the same for human beings and pets or is it. There is so much we don't know, this is a powerful personal experience of a dogs end of life and the evolution and connection between dogs and humans.

12.01.2022 Thank you to the expo visitors that shared their pet loss with me at the weekend. Our hearts connection is so beautiful for both our human and pet beings. I am here to serve and honour life's transitions.

12.01.2022 I love this picture, who doesn't get a smile at the way our 4 legged friends play and support each other. It was another reminder of how important it is for us to be supported with our pets especially when they are hitting older ages and life limiting challenges. Please feel free to have a chat with me if this is something that is touching you now or in the future. Woof woof............

06.01.2022 Recently I was kindly given a Mary Oliver book - Dog Songs. The book is described as a celebration of the special bond between human and dog, the poet's relationship to the canines that have accompanied her on daily walks, warmed her home, and inspired her work. It's a beautiful read and one of my favourites is Percy, waiting for Ricky. I love her words on the need to have an examined life, but wondering what it would be like for Percy, not thinking, not weighing anything, ...just running forward. Our animals live in the present, they don't need lessons, coaches, teachers other than to just be, there is something for each of us in the here and now. Hope you enjoy her words.
