24.01.2022 We use art and craft for the children to express their creativity, but to also enhance their fine motor skills. Fine motor skills develop naturally as your child gains the ability to control and coordinate their body. Keep in mind that some children might develop fine motor skills earlier and have increased coordination than others. Engaging in activities that involve movement of the smaller muscle groups in your child’s hands, fingers, and wrists is beneficial for pre-writing and important for the development of performing tasks independently, such as brushing teeth and dressing/undressing. While engaging in these experiences the children are enhancing their fine motor strength and control, bi-lateral hand skills, and hand/eye coordination.

18.01.2022 We've recently been exploring process art. Through process art, children * think creatively, independently, and imaginatively * learn about the physical limitations and possibilities of materials. * are encouraged to use creative and critical thinking skills.... * gain confidence to realize their own ideas. * are motivated to ask questions and experiment. * embrace experimentation and mistakes as part of the learning process. We've been offering a variety of materials and resources to encourage different processes, problem solving, collaboration, trial and error and cause and effect.

10.01.2022 One of our Educators is sponsoring a litter of seeing eye dogs and will be sharing their journey with the children in the Preschool room. The children will receive letters describing the adventures of the these adorable puppies as they grow and go through their training. They will also learn about what it means to be a seeing eye dog and the special role they have in people's lives.

05.01.2022 A big part of our curriculum is being inclusive of cultural diversity. When early childhood educators respect the diversity of families and communities, and the aspirations they hold for children, they are able to foster children’s motivation to learn and reinforce their sense of themselves as competent learners. We've been getting to know our families through conversations, the contributions they make to our program and planning and the goals they have for their children.... We've created a corner in our room where we can explore, acknowledge, respect and discover the cultural background and traditions that are relevant to our families and the community. The children are currently learning about the history of Braidwood, including the traditional land owners of our area and are being introduced to the traditional language of the Walbanga/Yuin people, the Dhurga language. We are also still continuing with our exploration of the Japanese language through the ELLA program, songs, discussion and apps.
