25.01.2022 What is matting? Matting is when a dogs coat becomes tightly tangled and is hard to brush out of the coat. Most likely places mats are found is * around the base of the tail *armpits *groin... * ears *legs Matting causes serious health issues for your pet. Dogs with long and/or double coats are prone to this. Mats can become a major medical issue. They trap moisture against the skin, which in turn irritates and inflames the area. Once the skin is irritated it is easier for wounds to form. Wounds untreated can become infected and once the infection gets to the blood stream it can be FATAL to your pet. PREVENTION *Brush your pet everyday, especially in high likely matting areas. * Take your pet to a groomer regularly. A groomer visit should be a maximum 2 months between visits. ( you can book in advance) If you have trouble brushing your pet, ask your groomer for advice. Most groomers are happy to help. We can show you brushing techniques and give advice on the best brush is for your pet.
