25.01.2022 ***IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT*** After much discussion between our Junior Domestic Group with feedback from the public we have made some changes to the timings for the Summer 2021 Season. For week one of the Summer 2021 Season for players born in the 2012-2014 - both the boys and girls will play in matches at 9:00am, boys on Court 2 and girls on Court 3. ... From week 2 we will run our Under 10 competition as a mixed competition, allowing both the boys and girls to play against children their own age. Please note that in our Junior Girls age group we will be playing games as 4 on 4 with subs, this format was used by Basketball Victoria in 2019 at their Showcase event and was found to be quite entertaining. The 4 on 4 style allowed for all players to get their hands on the ball more and also allowed for more space in the court and higher scoring games. We understand that these changes come late in the week, however we believe that these changes will be best for both the competitions and the children participating.

24.01.2022 Last call for clinic registration, closes tomorrow All U10, U12 and U14 age groups both saturday domestic of Junior Rep players are open to attend Some holiday fun early next week leading into basketball returning next weekend

23.01.2022 IMPORTANT CBL NEWS Hi folks, an important covid update for Saturday nights double header. Due to covid restrictions we have to close the game to to general public and limit spectators to immediate family of the players from the 4 teams. We apologize deeply for this, it saddens us greatly. But having such a great following has its disadvantage in times like this. ... We hope it’s short term abd are working in a better solution going forward. We are currently investigating if we can livestream the game for you. Thx The Committee WBI

23.01.2022 Don’t forget registrations close Sunday, there is no registration on the day. With Junior Domestic and Junior Rep kicking back off the following weekend this is a great chance to sharpen your skills in preparation ... or just have some fun with a couple of college ballers and Wallan BigV players.

21.01.2022 Hi Folks.. apologies this didnt come from us first, it appears someone pushed the button early at BV. We were just waiting on some final info that we thought was important before a broad comms was sent. Let me start by saying everything and everyone is fine. We have been overly cautious and worked with DHS and BV to take swift action to ensure everyone is protected. Robson Stadium is all good and open for business as usual. This is an after the fact comms just to make sure... the rumour mill doesnt kick into action wildly :) I did want to call out how proud we are of how this was handled by those involved and everyone we specifically asked to stand down from training etc while we sorted things through. It shows we were ready and responded accordingly... We have no at risk groups etc so if you have not heard from us directly there is no need for you to take any action. As always if you have any questions or concerns feel free to reach out. Our Basketball family continues to amaze!

20.01.2022 A big shout out to committee on the massive effort over 8 months to get us to today. Thank you also to the domestic team who have had hectic week basically organizing a season within a week. To all our amazing basketball family, WELCOME BACK! Have an amazing day. ... It will be odd, we will make some mistakes but basketball is back

19.01.2022 NEW LIFE MEMBERS Each year the committee awards life membership to recognise our volunteers who have had a significant impact on club over a long period and in a broad range of areas. This year we recognize and thank Ben Whyte and Simone Carrafa. ... Ben is well known around the club, having been here longer than most remember. He and his family are stalwarts of the club. Ben has been a coach, a player, a committee member, a ref and was the driving force behind our move into senior basketball as a key contributor to the business case for CBL. He now coaches the women’s CBL team. Simone has contributed to basketball in the region over a long period of time both inside and outside of the club. She was recognised by BVC with the 2018 Bev Bauer Award for Female Volunteer of the Year. To us, she has been the heart and soul of BigV. From day 1 she helped us through the application phase to get into the competition and then managed every aspect of our home games and administration and even team managed the teams. Her greatest impact has been the support she has provided our players and coaches across all ages. We look forward to being able to more formally present these awards to them. Clubs can’t function without the help of people like this and we are so grateful to have Simone and Ben as Life Members .. Panthers for life!

17.01.2022 Welcome back Alex

16.01.2022 BASKETBALL UPDATE As we excitedly progress toward domestic kicking off on Saturday we wanted to keep being very transparent with where things are at. Sorry for the long read. A small apology for the awkwardness and lateness of info this week. Fair to say we are flying by the seat of our pants. Monday 4pm was when we got clarity on how we can run the stadium so we had to reorganize ourselves based on that. Quite the short runway to get a season up . More info on teams and sin...glets will come shortly. In the middle of that we are also scrambling to get rep tryouts, Aussie hoops and our senior teams all up and running so hang in there with us Hopefully we have communicated enough for you to know things are going to feel a little different for a while. Firstly we have to start up very carefully as we will have costs but way less income so have to manage things a bit more diligently early on. Cashless(eftpos) and invoices will be the norm for payments. Secondly, we know from experiences across the state that it will take a few months to regrow numbers and engage kids back to basketball. We will have some activity to help with that but it will make this first season a bit smaller in numbers and maybe a bit odd .. we will keep our arms open to newcomers along the way for sure. Data from Basketball Vic says the younger age will be an early struggle (i.e. new to basketball littlies) and older players who moved on without the game for 12 months. This may also impact our rep team numbers but we will adapt and make sure all players get a chance to engage with elite pathways and make the most of their talents. We are committed to a big 2021 of bringing the game back to Wallan bigger than ever. Getting our BigV teams up and about so the kids have something to connect to and aspire to will be part of that planning. Lastly there are the rules of COVID, placed on us under the return to sport guidelines. We know they will be awkward and may feel a bit much at times, we expect they will relax in the coming weeks and months. For now it’s things like QR code check in’s, specific entry and exit doors for each court, masks indoors, no more than 150 people at a time so only 1 parent, social distancing always and showing up 10min before your game and leaving straight after. Spare a thought for the volunteers that have to keep on top of all of this and be kind if they give an instruction. They are there to keep everyone safe and without following these rules we can’t use the stadium. We wish the entire basketball community a happy and fun return to The Jungle, it’s going to be so great to see you all at the stadium and hear the sounds of basketballs, whistles and cheers again.

15.01.2022 FINAL UPDATE Green light from DHS to return to normal. The two impacted will remain in their 14 day iso so we will fill them with activities lol .... Everyone else is free to go about normal business ..... ...
