21.01.2022 WALLAROO LIONS CLUB UPDATE courtesy of the Secretary, Barb Newman. Wallaroo Lions Club would like to welcome new members Sharon Launer and Malcolm Kennett, as well as congratulating new Club President, Peter Hatcher. Sharon is our Wallaroo Markets coordinator and under her direction our market, on the 3rd Saturday of the month, is continuing to grow. A Wallaroo Lions project, under Sharon’s guidance, the Markets will be moving to the Town Hall in the New Year. This will see a... long awaited expansion of our monthly market. Malcolm Kennett and his wife Pat, formerly of, and transferring from Tintinara, were given a warm welcome by club members. Malcolm and Pat have only recently moved to Wallaroo, deciding on a ‘Sea-change’. Welcome to you both. We hope you love our town as much as we all do. It was sad to farewell our President, Keith Brooks, who returned to Pt Pirie, after serving our club for many years. His dedication and service to our club and the community will be missed. Keith was always the first to put his hand up to sell Bingo Tickets or man the Donut van. Such a lovely man, we wish him well. Incoming President, and long term Wallaroo Lions member, Peter Hatcher, was given a rousing reception upon his induction by DG Tony. With Peter at the helm, we look forward to a future of ‘thinking outside the box’; creating club growth, great fellowship and continuing service to our community. Wallaroo Primary School students competed in the local section of the global Lions International Peace Poster Competition, run by The Wallaroo Lions Club. President Peter Hatcher was pleased to present the winners certificate to 11 year old local girl, the talented Miya Turner, for her ‘Dream for Peace’ entry. Miya competed against 16 other exciting and well thought out entries in this ‘Peace through Service’ themed competition. PHOTOS ~ 1. 11.01.2022 Sunday the 11th October was the sailing club's Opening Day. Proceedings were started by the Commodore David Woodforde who welcomed everyone. A short talk about ...his sailing life was given by Neville Hank - passed treasurer, and then all those sailing headed off to prepare their craft for the Commodores Sail Past and the fun race to follow. Craft of all shapes and sizes hit the water. There was only a light wind, just enough to fill sails but not enough to allow for any great speed, skill was the name of the game. It was still a great day on the water. Afternoon tea, provided by club members was available in the club rooms after racing. Ever thought about sailing? Why not come down to the club next Sunday morning, have a chat to our sail trainers and maybe give it a go. For more information ring Col on 0409679949 or Peter 0434255096
